Anyone seen Cam Smith ?

There was a post a few days ago with someone saying there were plays on D where 4-5 players were standing around (sometimes together). Apparently weren't certain of their assignments. And none of them were rookies. Maybe it will take CS some time to get the assignments down. we know he looked like a natural CB in the PS
That was me. And it’s clear that communication and assignment responsibility are a huge issue right now. But we’ve also had two straight blowouts where Cam Smith could have received some playing time. Experience is the best teacher.

Not necessarily, sometimes coaches are too conservative. No Ramsey, no Eli apple, no needham. Secondary isn’t playing great, what do you have to lose honestly?
And I get sick and tired of the coaches being too conservative when it comes to either not playing rookies or not playing banged up players if they can still play.

I doubt he'll sit for two years.....Tindall I'm not counting on him being anything more than a ST's player
Tindall is really curious. He hasn’t gotten any defensive snaps this year, has he?

Exactly. Inserting Kelvin Joseph instead was idiotic. But I am starting to expect the idiotic from this defensive staff.
It’s kinda funny that Joseph wears the number of the guy he was traded for. There is such a symmetry about both players - highly drafted, wear the same number and so on.

I think he was on the field over Cam simply because he has experience.

Also has tremendous special teams value.

100%. Not to mention we’re obviously seeing some very severe growing pains in Fangio’s defense. Even if guys like Ramsey and Needham do come back, and even if they are physically 100%, how long for them to get acclimated to a new defense that they’ve never played in?

There are plenty of stories we can all tell ourselves about how the defense is going to get better, but until we see it, there are just as many reasons to think it won’t.
Is Ramsey running or exercising on that knee yet? I have no idea what that type of recovery entails

No because if he was so good he would be playing right now. Proof is in the pudding as they say.

Again you assume he should be playing or he's garbage. Why was Achane not starting from day 1? Why did Dan Marino not start from Day 1?

It's like me telling you right now, Smith is an All-Pro from what he did in the off-season, but that would make me sound pretty foolish.

Don't eat that pudding, until you're sure it's pudding...Especially Chocolate.

Talk about sucking the colour out of a rainbow amongst other things.
Yes every rookie should be a All Pro after 4 games.
I dont think anyone expects this, what people do expect is for our high draft picks to at least see the field. Seattle drafted tariq woolen last year in the 5th and he made the pro bowl, so while it is unrealistic to expect those types of outcomes from our players, its very discouraging when other teams are doing it.

Grier has done a lot of good, hes certainly not the worst gm, but hes made a lot of mistakes, and he tries to cover up those mistakes by over spending on bums. He traded UP to draft eichenberg. You know who we could use right now as his replacement? Micheal dieter, who happens to be starting for the texans. The texans lost derek stingley, their star corner to IR, yet the still managed to hold an opponent to 6 points.

The main problem is that we aren’t a deep team, so when the injuries start piling on, it turns into a nightmare because unlike other teams, we dont ever have anyone to step in and fill those voids.

Sidenote - Its not really unreasonable at all to expect cam smith to be out there right now. Why isnt he NFL ready? He was a second round pick… How come other teams can find dogs in rounds 3-7 and the only competent players on the field for us are first and second rounders? So its either the scouting department, grier, or the DC. Boyer had this same squad playing at a high level against the run last year, so maybe it is a coaching problem, but grier is still at fault for this mess. Oh btw, boyer was responsible for finding kohou, not grier.

Tindall has huge issues with reading an offense and being in the right position, as well as showing the discipline to stay in his position.

He is a physical freak, and it's a shame his read and react instict weren't better, but it's going to hinder him...Especially in a Fangio defense.

Don't disagree. I'm just making the point his slowness in learning the system doesn't imply 'unable to'

It is concerning that our 2nd round CB has not sniffed the field despite losing Ramsey early on and given very complimentary camp reports during the preseason. I'm not sure exactly why but then again I'm not sure exactly why a defense some of us thought could be top 10 coming into the year is actually performing at a bottom 5 level. It's certainly too early to call Smith a bust but it's not too early to be concerned. Think we have been down this road before and recently no?
