Anyone seen Cam Smith ?

Well if he can contribute right away why isn't he seeing the field? Other teams don't sit players who are able to contribute right away. This reminds me of the Tindall pick where he never sniffed the field and was also a 2nd round pick.
Tindall was a third round pick.

Tindall was a third round pick.
Ya I already corrected that yesterday but that doesn't change the fact that he is still a bust up to this point. Where have you been?

He couldn't pick up the defense last year, and you expected him to pick up a brand new defense in a few games?

Sorry that isn't going to fly with me. Sounds like Ezukanma on offense. That's like the dog ate my homework excuse. Maybe Grier should start drafting smarter players.

Don't disagree, but I think you've taken that too far. There IS talent on the D and I suspect some of the ~15 players getting significant snaps he inherited on D ARE fits to VF's scheme. How many is a legitimate debate, but I doubt NONE are a fit.
While you are correct that there are “some” talented players on defense. There are no impact players on that unit like there are on the offense.

Wilkins was one of the best DT’s in the league the last two years but he has seemed to disappear this season. Is that the Fangio defensive scheme or is his contract issues the reason he isn’t playing as well?

Sieler is a nice player at DT but he certainly isn’t an impact player.

Davis is a below average DT who have never played at a consistent level, even when he was at Alabama.

Long and Baker at ILB are mediocre at best and definite upgrades to these positions should be a priority in the off season.

Phillips has certainly shown potential to be an impact player in the past two years but this year he has been battling injuries and he certainly can’t help the defense when he is on the inactive list. AVG has filled in for Phillips and has been the best defensive player for the Dolphins so far this season.

Chubb has been a huge disappointment. I thought at the time they traded for him that he would be an excellent upgrade as an edge rusher. With Fangio coming in and the fact Chubb had play under him for 3 years in Denver, I figured he would have a great season. It just hasn’t happened so far and I am beginning to think he is just an overpaid mediocre player.

We have no idea how Ramsey will play once he returns from surgery, so we can just hope he will be at least one impact player when he eventually returns but unfortunately he isn’t able to play at this time.

The remaining CB’s are average at best and that includes Howard. He is no longer one of the best CB’s in the NFL and appears to have lost a step or two in the past couple of years. Kohou is an okay slot CB but he was clearly exposed when he went up against one of the best WR’s in the league this past weekend.

At safety Holland is above average but I still don’t see him as an impact type player. He misses too many tackles and his coverage skills are merely average. He could eventually develop into one of the best safeties in the league but he’s not there yet, IMO.

Elliott has been a nice addition at safety. He’s not great but he’s also not awful. He is obviously better than Jones and that was shown against the Bills when Elliott missed the game because of an injury and Jones clearly showed
he hasn’t fully recovered from off season surgery or else he was just rusty after not playing in nearly a year.

In looking at the defensive roster, I see a lot of mediocre talented players. I don’t 100% excuse Fangio for the poor play of the defense but I do believe that upgrading several positions on the defense by bringing in better players is necessary before this will be a defense in the top half of the NFL. Unfortunately those upgrades will likely not be possible until after this season is over.

What kind of reply is that? I just pointed out that he wasn’t a second round pick. It really doesn’t matter because it’s way too early to make any declarations about Smith regardless if Tindall is a bust.

Ya and I clarified it yesterday that he was a third round pick.

Agree on "impact" players, but EVERY NFL D has mostly average or worse players. Need to focus on those hurting the team most
