Sean Smith played extremely well against one of the league's premier WRs, and nobody seems to be talking about it!! But more importantly, Sparano put a rookie on Peyton Manning's elite playmaker and essentially said "you're more important to our pass D than Will Allen." That pass he defended that popped up and almost got picked by Gibril Wilson was a pretty good play. Because of the position Wayne put him in, he couldn't really turn around to make a play on the ball, but he got his arm in front of Wayne's face and kept it there. It should be enough that as a rookie in his second game ever he was even still near Wayne on his routes, but the fact that he was really blanketing him for most of the game needs to be talked about in this community more than Ted Ginn's two dropped TDs (keep in mind 11 catches isn't so bad).

Essentially, don't let this loss glaze over Sean Smith's achievements. The FO found a gem in Utah.

Yes, absolutely right! He looked awesome. He will be a stud corner for years.

I agree, I'd also like to see Davis split time with Will Allen and let Sean Smith play every snap.

You know this would make more impact to me if the Colts had the ball for more than 15 minutes and their tight end didn't have 7 catches for 185 yards.

Why throw to Wayne when you don't need to?

Also there was a play where Smith didn't ever turn his head to manning and could have had an interception if he did.

I like Smith alot, but not going to get carried away.

I did give props to Sean Smith in one of my earlier posts, but the fact remains MOST of our secondary got burned and let too many big plays slip through their fingers.

Smith is going to be special. I don't think Vontae had a bad game either, not spectacular, but not bad. I saw Allen get beat a few times pretty bad, and obviously Dallas Clark tore us apart. I didn't see Davis get burned though. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

this kid played great. id like to see more of Vonte Davis though. it will be tough since Will Allen is playing at a high level

Smith looked great. He and Gibril Wilson were double teaming Wayne all game and pretty much shut him down.

if by week 7 sean smith continues this i think he will be in the pro bowl or droy

Im surprised they didnt take more shots at smith...but its mostly because Clark was SINGLE covered all the time and whoever they had on him was never in position to make a play. N. Jones had the only significant PD in the game.

Manning made sure to back up Wayne after the game, said he knows lots of people will try to say "that rookie CB" took Wayne out of the game but it was actually "that rookie CB and a safety and usually a LB as well". Screw you Peyton, i hope Sean Smith pick 6's you before your careers over because the fact is even though there was double coverage to prevent him from going too deep, there were deep and intermediate passes made to wayne where it was just Smith that could make a play on the ball (Wilson a few metres off the play of course:rolleyes2:) and he did just that. His size is a great strength that most CB's don't have. I like him and think he will be a great player for us

I was at the game last night and this is exactly right. Sean Smith played a great game no doubt and I have high hopes for him and Davis both, but lets not get crazy yet. DROY? Pro Bowl? I want to see some picks and continued success AND growth on the field before we start getting too excited.
