the defense did not attack and played scared? Sure seems like it to me, the fins back off and everyone else "goes after it".

Seriously, what were you expecting? The Steelers with most of their starters back get shutout by a defense missing 3 starters in the backfield and 1 LB and the other two playing injured? That would have been grand and a huge story. But as expected, they broke and proved the same thing that preseason proves. Starters make a huge difference.

For all the attacking Houston did, they still allowed 34 points. Pick your poison vs NE or a Pitt or Atlanta. Play aggressive and perhaps make some big plays on D but also get torched OR allow yourself to get dinked to death. Doesn't matter - these teams will still put up 30+ in the end. You have to score some points yourself to beat them.

The Steelers averaged 25 a game, not sure what many were expecting our injury laden defense to do. They gave up 30 and I am surprised they didn't give up more. It's the playoffs, on the road, teams are going to score. Hell out of the 6 playoffs games so far our defense was 3rd in points allowed. Bottom line is, you can't score 12 points on offense and expect to win a playoff game.

The Dolphins end of year defense wasn't their real defense. It's a shame how the season ended with Ryan being out along with Reshad, IAQ, and bad LBs outside of Alonso.

What is sickening is how our secondary gave such a huge cushion for any QB to continue to dink and dunk us to death because we didn't challenge them.

Houston seemed to forget to rush Brady on third down. They were crushing him on first and second down.

And if we would have played press coverage we would have been torched over the top due to poor safety play and the CBs trailing.

Posts then would have been clamoring that our secondary can't keep any in front of them.

This.

Amazing that when a team has 3rd and 4, we play 11-15 yards off the line of scrimmage...

Yeah, not the case.

Miami had nothing left on defense by the time the playoffs rolled around. Not making excuses, but too many players were out with injuries.

That's not to say the defense doesn't need a lot of work and will obviously be the focal point of the offseason both through free agency and the draft.

What's sad is we played off, and still gave up 50 yard WR screens and let slant go for 70 yards. We were a poor tacking team. Even when guys were in position to make plays we didn't make the tackle. Look at the speed and hits other defenses lay out, then watch our soft defense play. The hell with anything else, we watched a team hand the ball of 10 times in a row, to the same RB, and march 80 yards to a td. Doesn't get much worse than that.

That's a function of the defense not the players, and the garbage man running the defense is now gone thankfully!

So true about the poor tackling. Amazing, really that this team made it to the playoffs.

Miami needs to find linebackers who are quick and can tackle.

Love the photo from Super Bowl VII by the way. Manny Fernandez was the man that day. Should have been MVP with 17 tackles.
