The Patriots and Steelers come to mind as two teams that go through coordinators, yet their "systems" essentially remain in tact. Instead of having new guys implement their new system, it seems the new coaches learn the existing system and go from there.
My guess is that that's the kind of philosophy Saban wants in Miami. The large coaching staff tells me that Saban expects to lose coordinators, but is looking to develop guys that can fill their shoes from within. Despite our relative success this past year, I think the two recent hirings of Mularkey and Capers indicate that Saban is not yet happy with our system - both offensively and defensively. Linehan's offense no doubt was an improvement over the last few years, but Mularkey's seems like it could fit our personnel better and give us more of a power identity ala the Steelers. The hiring of Capers most likely means we are headed towards a base 3-4 defense. Both systems that the new coordinators will be bringing in seem conducive to long term success; we now have two veteran NFL minds that should be able to give us a blueprint to succeed for years. Once these guys leave, hopefully after at least two years, Guys like Baggett, Garrett, and Muschamp will be ready to step right in and help make the transitions to new coordinators fairly easy.
I think if Saban were happy with what we were doing last year he would have promoted Baggett to OC and simply kept the defense as it was - which is actually what I expected him to do. The fact that he went out to get two very experienced guys with proven track records tells me he is looking for more from both sides of the ball.
