Um... i'm confused. As far as i can tell we are tied with our entire division, which consists of three potential superbowl teams, for first place. And people are knocking Saban? I'm sorry, we were 4-12 last year. How does a 10 point loss (should have only been 7 other then that tard kick) against the Jets (AWAY) make this dissapointing? We are supposed to suck. Remember? Saban has exceded all of my expectations, and even my fondest wishes so far. Anyone who is disapointed should just eat rocks, because there will never be anything that pleases you.

Ronnie hasen't done well. Oh my... One thing that isn't going perfectly. Our O-Line is light years better then last year, Gus is doing great, our D has been sick... and one rookie isn't doing well so we have to complain? What about Channing? Daniels? Two rookies who have been amazing? Forget about them? We all knew that a .500 season would be great, and we are well on our way do posting one. Now please relax, and enjoy the game!

Brown has to prove himself. This is Saban's pick. I had to wonder why he did not take Caddy, but Saban knows a hell of a lot more than me. Right now, Caddy looks like the real deal and Brown has a lot to prove. It the O line is so much better especially. Maybe he is better than Caddy but not yet. this was our highest pick I can remember.

we're not going to the playoffs this year!

*miami fans* WHAT! grab your knifes and pitch forks, we're gonna find this Saban character and send him back to whatever football program he chooses!

i wish i wasn't partly serious...

I agree... but the point is that there are a lot more things to be happy about then to be mad about. Ronnie is the only thing that's not working out right away. I say that is impressive...

were doin great i mean compared to last year when we won are first game being 0-6

they would be wize to take it week by week and fucus on the task at hand. The playoffs are for teams that can do that.

For real... people that were thinking that our team was playoff bound were not being realistic... Its called rebuilding... meaning Saban is going to build a team of his own. You cant be so critical of every aspect of a team during this period... but more look for overall improvement of the team and no one can deny that there has been a dramatic change.

That takes a few drafts and a few offseasons to bring in his players for his systems. Think about how much turnover has already happened from last season... Lots of players have been cut, traded, or allowed to depart as free agent... that is how rebuilding works...

You people have to relax and be patient with a team in this stage... If we were trying to make a playoff push, we would have sacraficed the future by trading away draft picks for players (ala Donivan Darius) and over paying for FAs that are the best available at their posistion (Jonas Jennings)...

We wernt making a playoff push... we were building a team. Its something we have never experienced because we have constantly sacraficed the future to push for the playoffs instead of building a team from the ground up... Enjoy the new era...

I completely agree with your post. We are a much better football team than last year. Does anyone remember what the score was the last time we played the Jets in NY? I do it was 41-14. I agree that this game was winnable, and that there are many areas that we can improve in, but I am not going to complain about a 10 point loss when we are 1-1 and tied for first in our division. I know that there is no chance that we will make it to the Super Bowl and probably not even the playoffs, but I am exited to see how the rest of the season plays out. That is more than I could say last year. With new coaches and promising rookies, I like the direction were heading in.

Imagine if three weeks ago on these boards we had seen this message from the future:

In week 1 you will play well and paste Denver 34-10.
In week 2 you will play a mutually-sloppy game at NY and lose 17-7.
The entire division is tied at 1-1 after week 2.

Everyone would have been pretty happy with that and most would have been surprised that we would do so well. I think that the lack of major holes in the team is a big step as well. Sure we can't run, but neither can a LOT of teams in the NFL and I don't think anybody doubts we will improve with time and with Ricky. But our holes at QB and Oline are gone, replaced by adequate play. We were gagging for adequate last year, and three weeks ago we were hoping like hell we would see it when the kickoff came. Our worries on defense, even in the secondary, have not been as bad as feared.

We are a legitimate threat to any team in the league right now, and not just in the "any given Sunday" sense. Last year we were not. Three weeks ago there were still a lot of 4-12 predictions going around, within our fanbase and without. We look a lot more like a 6- or 7-win team right now, worst case.

The problem isn't our record, it's the fact that our offense and defense showed almost EXACTLY the same weaknesses as last season in our loss to the Jets. The Jets played almost as poorly as they did against the Chiefs in week one, but our guys simply didn't have the talent to capitalize on it. I for one didn't expect the playoffs this season, and in fact didn't expect us to win ANY of the first four games till Ricky came back, but it's disappointing that we lost to the Jets the same old way we ALWAYS lose to the Jets.

There's a long way to go, and teams improve and decline every year, but for now...

The Jets don't look like a playoff team, let alone a SB contender. Buffalo has a better chance, but right now it's hard to imagine either of them getting past Indy, Pittsburgh and the Pats.

But yes, it's still a tough division and tied after two weeks isn't too bad.

You mean how our offense threw a pick-6 and tried to run the entire game even though it was obvious that running wouldn't get us down the field? Or were you referring to how our defense collapsed in the second half and let them run up a bunch of unanswered points? Oh wait... none of those happened.

No, I mean that our offense was unable to run-block, was unable to establish a running game, and our wide receivers repeatedly dropped passes in key situations. The offense couldn't sustain drives and failed to take advantage of numerous opportunities. Just like last season. No need to wait and no need to continue being a smartass.

I think the problem with Brown is the amount of TC he missed. A perfect example of this would be all the dancing he did before hitting the hole, this is something that Saban would have picked up early and corrected had he been in training camp. The experience that you get in TC is an absolute must if you want to be successful on the football field. The kid just needs time.
