When I talk to other people at school or whereever, no one thinks the dolphins are playoff caliber. They all say the patriots will still win the division. They have this image in their minds from the 04 season that the dolphins are in the bottom half of the league.

Basically what im saying is....pretend that you werent a dolphin fan...pretend that you don't like the dolphins.....think of urself as very ignorant...
...we have a weak secondary, passing teams will torch us. thomas is getting kinda old, and so is taylor. The offensive line still sucks, which means they wont be able to run effectively, and culpepper will be his old self with no randy moss, ..haaa adur dur dur dur dur. lol.

Yea so, do you guys think we're ALITTLE overconfident, or are we really one of those top teams in the AFC whose season would be a failure if they didnt make the playsoffs?

Some of us are "cautiously optimistic", but there are plenty of members here that will send this board into a tail-spin should we not start out of the gates like Secretariat.

I`m not overconfident...but then again, I haven`t talked to anybody at "school" about the Dolphins lately either.

According to most of the "fans" on this site.

-Ronnie Brown can't hit a hole
-Jason Allen is a bust
-Chambers drops every pass
-Will Allen gets burned on every play

but at the same time they defend Nick Saban and claim we are a legitamate Super Bowl contender.

I'm tired of all the negative criticism on this site by our "best fans".

God I wish I was in VIP.

I am not convinced that the Dolphins can unseat the Patriots this year. If our OL and our DB's don't play better, it's not gonna happen. I am not convinced Culpepper is an elite QB. However, he is an upgrade that we sorely needed. That said, I wasn't unhappy with Frerotte last year. He did a really good job. Our problem last year was that our OL wasn't that good and our defense wasn't that good. Same problems I see so far this year. Will the Dolphins be good, yes, but division winnners? Not sure, they'll go as the OL goes.

The arguments you mentioned are inaccurate. The first string secondary has been incredible. Thomas and Taylor are still playing as well as they ever have. The OL has not improved but they were at least middle of the pack last year and will probably be a little better by the end of the season. DC had his best season when Moss missed almost half the games with injury.

So it's only the poorly informed people who would consider Miami as a bottom half team. Anybody who is informed recognizes that Miami has question marks, but no more than any other playoff contender. They also have as much talent as the other playoff contenders. IMO that doesn't make then a Super Bowl lock or anything, it does give Dolphin fans a reasonable hope.

Well, then pay your $36 and get over there.

We came off a 6 game winning streak last year. If not for a couple of close games, and a coupe of fluke games (week 2 loss to jets, shutout by the browns????) We would have been inthe playoffs, and the hottest team in the AFC. Who knows what could have been.

We have drastically improved. Harrington is a better QB than we've had in a few years, even with his shaky decisions. And culpepper is looking healthy.

We've gotten a little younger on defense, and our rookies from last year have a year under their belt.

We have 2 head coaches as assistants! Great coaches too.

Another year with sabans system. Another year learning his defense.

We have the tools, if it all gets put together or not. We will compete for the AFC east, and have a legitimate shot to go deep.

I think m ost of it depends on our o-line, our secondary, and Culpepper being back to where he was pre injury, which it looks like he is goin to be, if not week 1, then early in the season.

hey man, im just trying to view ourselves in other peoples eyes. Since all the football fans I talk to say their team will do well, even though its obvious that their team wont (IE: niners, packers). So I'm just trying to see what I would think about dolphans who say that about their team.

Personally, I think we will dethrone the patriots and make the playoffs, and win a game there. I think we ARE that good.

:yeahthat:

Amen. There are plenty of reasons for optimism and most "experts/publications" indicate the Dolphins should, at the very least, contend for the AFC East title and or wild card spot. Those predicting Super Dowl are perhaps "over confident," but I hope they are correct.

Eh, the niner fans I know (my roomate is one) is pretty pissed at them, and knows they'll suck. Upset at the drafting of old small hands (A. SMith) instead of taking a WR #1 and then getting leinart this year (or another QB. ALl the 3 first rounders have a chance in the NFL, smith will never do anything IMO. Nor his) and then, they win their last game, so they can't get bush! Yeah, hes unhappy lol.

But, I think even as a non fin fan (Which who I talk with alot of them) think our team is being underated by the media, and think they'll make a strong push this year. Some of them put bets down on miami when theyw ere 20-1 against winning the AFC Championship.

This is a great question. I read a lot of stuff on this board from fans that just simply love the Dolphins so much that they don't see what is really going on. So yeah, there are a lot of people that are overconfident.

Once again, I will do what I do best. THESE ARE THE FACTS.

The Dolphins were a disgrace in 2004. It was the worst I had ever seen the Miami Dolphins play in my entire lifetime of 30 years. In 2005, the Dolphins cleaned house and got things back on the right track. But if you remember, there were some growing pains in the early part of last season. It wasn't until the last six games that the Dolphins got things moving in the right direction.

So, does that six game winning streak have any affect on this year? Absolutely not. And that is the funny thing. Most people are talking so great about the Dolphins because of that six game winning streak. Many of the players from that streak aren't on the team this season. The defense basically has an entirely new secondary, the offense has new QBs, and Ricky is gone again.

The 2006 Dolphins will take the next step in the right direction. They are moving towards a championship. I think the most accurate prediction for the Dolphins is that they will make the playoffs this year. It has been awhile since they were even in the playoffs. I also think they can win the division, if they reach their full potential.

But the people that act like Miami will be in the Super Bowl are dreaming. And that's cool. But don't believe what they say. The reality is that it would be a miracle if Miami made it to the Super Bowl this season. It would be a fairytale story. Sometimes miracles happen, so it is possible. All I am saying is for you not to expect them to be in the Super Bowl this season.

GO FINS!!!

its the same where i work...most still think the dolphins are the team of 04. very few even realize miami was 9-7 last year. im surrounded by mostly steeler fans and they think miami will be an easy win. im hopin to make a little money and already got 70$ on the game. imo we as phin fans have every right to be very confident. does that mean we cant fall flat on our face? no, but that also wouldnt mean that we were over confident. what we did last year and what we added this year, we have reason to believe.

im not gonna say we dont have a chance at gettin to the superbowl cuz its possible. we have what looks like an easy schedule with a division that seems to get weaker day by day. if we get hot, win the division anything can happen in the playoffs.

Excellent post. I would expect to see some posts blasting your view, however for what it's worth, I'm one fan that is in complete agreement. I would like to add though, IMO we took that last game much more seriously than NE did. They rested players, they let Flutie do his dropkick, etc. The bottom line is that a win is a win. But my point is that because of certain factors, it wasn't as much of a measure of our progress as it would have been had they not rested players in the second half.
