I"ve been on vacation for the last week so I apologize if this has been brought up in a different thread. I tivoed the Jax game and just finished watching the re-broadcast of last night's game.

As I watched these 2 games, I'm starting to think that Frerotte isn't much of an upgrade over Feeley if at all. I will also state that I'm hoping Feeley wins simply because if this is to be a rebuilding season, then let's give Feeley a chance to either prove he should be part of this organization's future plans or if we should cut our losses. What does it matter if instead of 6 games, we win 7 because Frerotte knows the system and gives us the best chance of winning now ( I don't agree with this by the way)?

Here's the tale of the tape for me, a fan, and an armchair scout:

Frerotte: Knows the system yet he isn't lighting the world on fire. He's had receivers drop some balls on him but he's also made some ugly throws. I feel he shortarms some of his throws but at the same time, tends to get the ball downfield very well. Isn't the most accurate passer.

Feeley: Doesn't know the system and also isn't lighting the world on fire. He's had quite a few ugly throws only to follow them with some nicer ones. Hasn't had many drops (except for Thompson's in game 1) but seems to lock onto his target. He's a bit more accurate than Frerotte and throws the deep ball quite well. Has rapport with many of the WR's.

Now by my account, I would say both QB's are pretty even. If they are, Feeley should start. We have more invested in him and we need to see what we have or don't have. I'd like to see Rosenfels get a shot because I think he throws the nicest ball on the team but I don't think that's going to happen. I also know that his stats are misleading since he's done his work vs. 3rd and 4th stringers.

Moral of the story: Feeley should start if Frerotte doesnt prove he's head and shoulders better than Feeley (which he hasn't done).

If the guy who knows the system and has the advantage is doing worse than the other, there is no reason he should be starting. The guy who doesn't know the system will only get better, while the one who does and is still doing horrible will stay at his level of mediocrity.

i'm just worried we are running out of time now .. we can't keep swapping qb's every other pre season game because one looks better than the other. It would be better for the team as a whole, especially the recievers, if we pick a QB and let him get more comfortable with the offense.

With that being said i'm all for whoever is the best quarterback for this team, and I still can't stay who that is just yet.

I think he proved that he isn't.

You are right. The people that want Ferrotte to start just fool themselves hoping he will take us to the SB or something. Forget it. Neither of these Qb's will barring a miracle. Neither is the complete package and Gus has finished improving. Maybe Feeley won't get better either but we may as well see. I'd rather go 6-10 with him (worst case scenario I think) and know how he is, than go 8-8 with Gus (best case scenario) and waste another season in mediocrity with no regard for the future.

Feeley may not be the future but let's find out. We already know Gus isn't. Last night was a blessing in disguise if it keeps Gus as the backup.

I agree stop with the freaking swapping, stick to one QB, let him get comfortable with what he has in the field. Stop swapping just because one QB plays better than the other one. time is ticking

we keep switching QBs so much that no QB has time to adjust to the system. Its like swapping RBs all the time - if you don't just stick with one, he will get cold.

I think if we didn't rotate QBs so much, BOTH would play better. That said, neither are the "answer" for us at QB. who is better? well saban is a much better decider of that than anyone on this board. what he sees in practice combined with what he sees in the games - let Saban decide instead of all you monday-morning QBs

Start the year with Gus. Give him 4 or 5 weeks. IF he sucks, then like last year go to AJ. Let him finish out the year. See if he is our future (odds are he isn't but ya never know)

If he had earned the job with superior play, then great. But right now, AJ still hasn't been outplayed enough to be unseated.

AJ also hasn't done enough to keep the job. Catch 22

I think Sabans rebuilding strategy is to build a team and then plug in a QB later. He knows AJ and Gus are not the answer. The Fins spoke to Tim Couch's agent last week, which shows they are not satisfied with either current QBs. If Couch was signed and makes the team, I would suspect that either AJ or Gus would have to be cut. Although flirting with Couch could just be a message to the current QBs that the team is not happy with their play.

I think AJ will start regardless of who plays better. Once we plug in a decent QB, we will need a capable backup, and Gus will be retired by then anyway. I dont think Saban plans on going to the playoffs this year, so this year will be spent making his players better. Although Gus may be a better QB, he has reached his full potential whil AJ hasnt.
