i dont understand what everyone was expecting. this is the second year of a rebuilding process that will take 3-5 years. saban inherited a terrible team. our defense was too old. the entire defense was in need of youth. saban was smart enough to start with the secondary because that unit needs the most time. harrington is the qb of the future, not daunte. saban knew this when he acquired both. there was no point in getting brees here, because he would have been just as bad. no qb is going to be successful with the personnel we have now. saban has done a great job for keeping this team competitive since he got here, we finished 9-7 last year, and have been in every game this year. while i am not happy we arent winning games, i understand that saban inherited a team taht needed to be gutted. and while many coaches would try to get quick fixes and try to win now, saban has stayed committed to his plan.

The problem is, SABAN ISN'T REBUILDING! What he's doing is more akin to trying to shore up a crumbling old wreck of a building by pulling pieces off ANOTHER crumbling wreck of a building and nailing them on to reinforce it. If he WERE actually rebuilding, I wouldn't have as big of a problem with the losing.

you cant expect a secondary of such players to be successful immediately. DB is the second hardest position to adapt to in the NFL.

yeah. his rebuilding is simply moving around the deckchairs of the titanic

Usually, though, when you rebuild, you don't start taking pieces away from the new project. Meaning, you don't usually like to GO BACKWARDS in the process. That is seemingly what we are doing.

I hate to say it, but Saban looks confused on the sidelines recently. He doesn't seem to be yelling at anyone and our players are suffering from the same thing as last year. Terrible first halfs and a furious comeback to try and salvage the game late. Generally, against lax defenses and subppar teams mind you.

Nick really needs to change the midnset of this frnachise and get them to SOMEHOW score early.

You don't expect a championship, but you do expect this team to get a little better each week and they're NOT!!! I wouldn't quite say Saban's done a great job!! Just because he won "6" games last year doesn't make him a saint!! I wanted him here to begin with, but one has to start to wonder about of the stupid personnel decisions he's made!!

he's always making that half-grin half-frown and clapping. always CLAPPING! :fire:

I was expecting to be a contender in the AFC East. Not the 2nd worst team in the league behind the Raiders. The Titans outplayed us and we should be the winless team going into today, not them. We were so lucky to win that game and at this point the only team I believe we are better in then is the Raiders. Saban brought in Kevin Carter last year, re-signed Junior Seau last year, kept Jeff Zgonina, brought in Vonnie Holliday, Dan Wilkerson, Daunte Culpepper, brought back Ricky Williams. These guys aren't here to rebuild and hell some of them aren't even here (Seau and Ricky) but rebuilding doesn't mean you expect to lose and expect to be worst in the division and close to worst in the league. It's not like we just signed Daunte, we traded a 2nd round pick for and a essentially a 5th round for Harrington. A rebuilding team doesn't go trading first round picks for STARTING QB's. I wasn't expect Super Bowl. I was expecting competing against New England for AFC East not being the worst in the AFC East and one of the worst in the NFL. Tennessee is rebuilding... not us. And realistically thinking... the way we've been playing, I really believe Saban getting 5 years at this point is a longshot.

Saban is out of his class

Saban, simply does not have the knowledge to run an NFL team. I don't have a problem with losing or with rebuilding but I do have a problem with coaching decisions. At the VERY least, the third down play should have been a run. You try for a first down - at worst put the ball a couple of yards closer. You do not take the last timeout with you home on the plane ride. The only time Saban has looked okay was last year when his team was out of the playoffs and he played with nothing to lose. It is a disgrace with a top TE, WR, RB and respectable front defensive 7 than this team is where it is. I am embarrassed - I only wish Saban was as well.

The problem is that we went 9-7 last year and looks like we will have a worse record this year. When you rebuild
you gut the team the first year and put in young talented players. Then you improve a little each year.

Saban has brought in alot of old guys like Kevin Carter,Vonnie Holiday,Keith Traylor, and Big Daddy Wilkinson.Instead of trading some old guys for more draft choices and drafting young guys.Saban has traded away draft picks instead and signed the old guys.

You say we have been in every game this year,so what we still lost all but 1.We have played what is considered a weak schedule.Other than New England we haven't played any team with a winning record.
In 2004 we were also in just about every game, but as you said that team was terrible,so how is this team that much better?

Fact is Saban's team has taken a step backwars, and
he has made some big mistakes, such as hiring a guy
named Mike Mularky, who was a huge failure in Buffalo, and whos offense has been below average other than a couple years during the '90s up in Pittsburgh.
Why not bring in a young up and coming offensive mind and make him your offensive coordinator, instead of some retread failure?

I'm willing to give Saban another year or 2 to put together "HIS" team, but so far I'm not liking what I'm seeing.

People were ready to run Wanstedt out of town in his second year,I was never a big fan of his,but I was willing to give the guy a chance.Seems though that people give Nick alot more slack than they gave Dave.Right now I don't see Nick doing any more than Dave did in his first couple years.

You can't rebuild everything in two years. Some things have to take a backburner until later. the secondary was one of those things. The reason we are pulling from other teams is to put bodies in the game. I think that a crappy body is better than no body. What we improved this year is qb (don't care who you like better, this position is the best its been in years) and the defensive line has some up and coming youth into it. Will Allen has looked good this year and looked even better today. the offensive line had some good youth coming too it in Toledo until he got injured. Right now, it looks like saban is trying to build a team from rejects, but the real fact is that he is looking for bodies cheap to get them on the field and next offseason to replace and rebuild with talent.

he never had to rebuild everything, the worst problems however have been ignored.
