They are crazy if they are going to move him to DE.

First and most discouraging is Soliai admitting he's gone from being a big dude to a fat big dude this offseason. In collegue Barry Jackson's buzz column, Soliai says he's weighing in at a whopping 360 pounds. The Dolphins want him at 345 pounds ASAP.
And they want him at that weight because his days as a nose tackle may be over. The fact is Soliai is expected to get repetitions during the coming minicamps as a defensive end as well as a nose tackle. And if the roster on the team's English language website (there will be two Miami Dolphins websites by training camp, one in Spanish) can be believed, Soliai is more a defensive end than a nose tackle or defensive tackle.

if it doesnt work he wont stay there.
I dont see anything wrong with trying him there.

it really doesnt matter either way, he is nothing special at either position. I think his days are numbered.

Makes it all the more curious why we didn't get interior line help. Sounds like Soli is on the block....Which I honestly figgured he was before last season was over with anyways. Two suspensions makes you expendable.

he has no trade value either ugh.
We should have drafted a DT like Myron Pryor

It doesn't matter if you agree or not, its happening. This gives us versatility.
He's a bust anyway he won't do anything. No work ethic at all

Getting 15 lbs off by training camp isn't hard. I'm not saying he'll workout, but it's not a difficult task.

This guy is such a tird....another ace for Cam/Mueller....guess Ellis should be making the team.

I just do not see him surviving cuts this year. The dude is not motivated at all. Its not hard to figure that if you get suspended for weight issues, then you need to keep your weight down. What a loser! We do not need this type of attitude on this team.

Get that Fat Lard off our team...if he would put his head in the game he may be a monsterbut he doesnt car...so good ridance

Unbelievable. The front office gives you chance after chance and what do you do to return the favor? Show up overweight to offseason conditioning programs. This guy has no work ethic whatsoever.

At first thought having him at DE does not seem to make sense. But from a coaching stand point, the 3-4 is build around the LB to makes a lot of the plays and the 3 down linemen are usually larger and in simple terms meant to take up space. The nose tackle needs to command a double team with out a doubt, and if a DE commands one then that is a plus. A 345 lb DE, if he can be a lump and unmovable, will more than likely need extra attention, and at the least create a pile up. This leaves one less body on the OLB coming around the end. Do I think this is a good move, no not really... but on situational downs such as run plays or run blitzes this could work... maybe.

Just trying to put a reasoning behind it.

This is kinda surprising to me, but in a way it supports something I have suspected this offseason.

I think they want to move Merling to LB. Outside or inside, although I DO believe he is athletic enough to play OLB.

This kid was a turnover machine in college, he will work much better in space than at DE in the 3-4.

Moving Soliai to DE (I'm sure as depth), and maybe have Starks/McDaniel on one side with Langford/Dotson/Soliai on the other....

As posted above though, I dont think this bodes well for Soliai. A DE, even in a 3-4, needs to be more mobile than a NT, and at 360 lbs (or 345 as they want) he would outweight our next heaviest lineman by 40lbs. I dont see a 350 lb DE having the speed to contain the run on the edges.
