Gilbert Arenas had 51 points, including a 3-pointer as the final horn sounded, and the Washington Wizards snapped a two-game losing streak with a 114-111 victory over the Utah Jazz on Monday.

In the final 2:09, Arenas hit three 3-pointers and three free throws to eclipse the 50-point mark for the third time in his career, all this season. He shot 14-for-29 from the field and 16-for-17 at the free-throw line. He also had five assists and committed only one turnover in 41 minutes.

It was the seventh time this season Arenas scored 40 or more points and the most points he’s ever tallied at the Verizon Center.

Arenas has become a MONSTER. Almost unlimited range, and he's no novelty act. He has to be considered in the MVP voting, and his team could do damage in the East.

I agree on both ends. He isn't the front-runner to win the MVP but he certainly should receive consideration!

I don't support players who don't play defense being considered for MVP.

Nonetheless, he's a very exciting player to watch, but he's a SCORER.....period.

His team can do no damage in the East..as long as the Heat is around.

The Heat absolutely own the wizards.

I was at the game yesterday. Pretty shiddy crowd considering it was a holiday. I always hate Wizards fans b/c they're so quiet until something actually happens.

But I knew Arenas would win the game. He and Okur kept hitting 3-pointers late in the game and you just knew Arenas would get the last laugh.

I guess Utah doesn't believe in double teaming anyone. Only other guy who could've won the game for them was Caron Butler.

Washington is a good team but isnt close to a title contender. Hell, they might get to the NBA finals but they aren't anyone compared to Phoenix and Dallas

Not in a million years.

Man you Heat fans act like your **** don't stink. Everytime someone brings up another player in the NBA or a team in the East all you guys say is "Well Wade is better or they won't beat the Heat when the Heat are healthy" instead of just giving a guy their props or a team for that matter. Basically you took a thread about Arenas playing out of his mind (which he is) and made it into a "they can't beat the Heat thread." The fact is Gilbert is playing great ball right now and everyone hating on him saying he plays no defense forgets to mention the fact that only a HANDFUL of players in the NBA play defense. If Gilbert is going to be criticized for not playing defense then a ton of players are giong to have suffer the same criticism. No doubt about it the Heat are the favorites to win the East when they get healthy but at the end of the day, Gilbert deserves his props. Your a huge, knowledgable basketball fan Section and since you are you have to admit, not to many players have had a stretch like Gilbert has lately. Add to the fact that he's not only scoring but how clutch he's been and I think he's easily beginning to put his name up there with Kobe, Wade, T-Mac, and the rest of the NBA elites!

By the way, I do agree with you Section, the Wizards can't touch the Heat but put it this way, whether the Wizards lose in the 1st round, 2nd round, or ECF, the team that plays them is going to have their hands full. The Wizards might not win a series but I could see them giving a good team in the East fits like the Cavs did to the Pistons last year!

Also I interviewed Gilbert at the NBA store about a month ago when he was there promoting his new shoe and let me tell you he was the most engaging, chill athlete I've met. A little coo koo with his off the cuff remarks but a nice guy who was fun to talk to. The P.R. lady running the event was trying to push Gilbert out the door to go to another event but he was chill enough to answer all the questions my boss sent me with and like I said, he was engaging, which is all you can ask for out of an athlete!

Hey..I like Gilbert...great player...but his team is hopeless against the Heat.

We beat that team without SHAQ int he playoffs 2 years ago....in a sweep.

Bron Bron beat them last year.

Something happens to them when the chips are down.

Arenas is great though...but his team will keep him far away from a MVP award this year.
