Raiders | Team has press conference scheduled for Saturday

Steve Corkran, of the Contra Costa Times, reports the Oakland Raiders have scheduled a news conference for 1:30 p.m. PST Saturday, Feb. 11, to introduce Art Shell as the team's 15th head coach. It will be his second go-round with the Raiders. The team agreed to a contract with Shell to be the successor to head coach Norv Turner Friday evening, Feb. 10.
 
Here's a transcript of a phone call that took place between AL Davis and Art Shell.


Shell: Hello?
Davis: Hey, it's me, Al Davis
Shell: Hey
Davis: Hey, so you want to coach here or whatever?
Shell: Ok, whatever.
Davis: Ok, cool.
Shell: Cool. Bye
Davis: Bye
 
I wonder how longterm this is? Shell doesnt have too much pride to take a job when he was the 2,456,764th choice. He should have gotten a better job than the terrible Raiders job. One of the worst gigs in sports, AL Davis is insufferable.

RAIDERS HIRE SHELL
Art Shell was hired for his second stint as Oakland Raiders coach, ending the team's 5 ½-week search for Norv Turner's replacement.
Shell, who hasn't been a head coach since the Raiders fired him following the 1994 season, first talked to owner Al Davis about taking the job last week and emerged as the leading candidate after Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt told the team he didn't want the job.

I think that one of many of BIG Al's F***-ups was firing Shell..
Art Shell can flat out coach and it has been a real mystery why he hasn't been given another h-coaching position before this!

I would not have minded if the Dolphins would have hired Shell if N Saban would have turned down the Miami h-c position..

If anyone knows how to handle BIG Al,,, Art shell can!

:lol: My friend (Die Hard Oakland Fan) texts me earlier today tellin' me this (even though I already knew). He was EXTREMELY OPTIMISTIC as he is about every of his Sports teams. I found it funny that he thinks they are going to be good sometime soon :lol:
 
First Of All People Did Want To Coach Here But Al Sad No One Person Was Offerd The Job The Louiville Coach And He Said No Becuse His Son Wanted To Stay There Along With His Family Second Shell Is A Good Coach And People Wanted Our Job So Stop Playing The Media Role!!!

Totally agree with this....firing Shell the first time was a major blunder. Shell has major credibilty because of his Hall of Fame playing career. We all know how much Davis respects the old Raiders (a very admirable trait). This is a very good hire in my opinion.

I don't think the Raiders will be down for long...as soon as they fix that defense they'll be okay in my opinion.
