Arthur Lynch to sign 4 year deal by tomorrow

Good. We have needed a true 2-way TE since we let Fasano go and this kid is already a better combo guy than Sims.

Now get in there, learn the offense and start hitting the film room kid.

Great. Sign as many rookies as quickly as possible. The quicker they are with the team the better!!

All rookies can attend this mini camp regardless of contract right?

Jumping the gun a bit, no?

Possibly, but I don't think so. Sims never impressed me in college and showed almost no production or significant improvement as a rookie. Lynch is inconsistent but already a better blocker and receiver.

Sims may make a massive jump in terms of quickness, power, blocking and separation, but if not he will clearly be behind Lynch on the depth chart and on the bubble for a roster spot. Clay and Lynch are the only two TE's not on the bubble IMHO.

The Dolphins announced Thursday they’ve signed tight end Arthur Lynch, the fifth-round pick from Georgia.

Terms weren't disclosed but Lynch is believed to have signed a four-year, $2.4 million contract with a $185,000 signing bonus.

Lynch becomes the first member of the Dolphins’ 2014 draft class to sign a contract, and it comes one day before the three-day rookie mini-camp that begins Friday. Lynch, the 155th pick of the draft, was also one of two fifth-round picks the Dolphins had in the draft; the other is linebacker Jordan Tripp of Montana, the 171st selection.

Lynch (6-5, 258) is more of a blocking tight end than a receiving tight end. He’ll likely compete with Dion Sims, a fourth-round pick last year, and Michael Egnew, a third-round pick in 2012, for playing time behind starter Charles Clay.

The way things stand now Clay and Sims appear to be the only tight ends almost assured of being on the roster. Egnew, Lynch and Kyle Miller, who spent last season on the practice squad will probably battle to be the third tight end.

There’s a chance Lynch could find a home on the 53-man roster playing on special teams and perhaps in short-yardage and goalline situations.

Bro I bet you Sims has a break out year this year under Lazor. He wasn't used correctly last year after the one handed catch in the end zone.

Apparently he's from Dartmouth, MA which is about 40 minutes from where I live and his Jersey is on sale at the Dartmouth mall. Word of mouth, not sure how accurate it is.

I sincerely hope you are correct. Being a UVa fan I know exactly how well Lazor utilizes two-way TE's. If there is a chance for him in this league, this is it. He was brought in to be an exceptional blocking TE, but he is nothing special at blocking.

As a pass catcher he is tall with virtually zero vertical jump in cleats and poor at boxing out to create a safe catch zone. Other than that one play of less than 5 yards, he did nothing.

I hope he has become a grinder, comes back ripped and ready to work. If not, I think he only makes the roster if Lazor insists on 2 in line TE's and the waiver wire is thin.
