Sorry if posted:

One high-ranking Dolphins official said his team would do "whatever we have to do to find the right coach." Yet he dismissed the idea of trading draft picks to Pittsburgh for Cowher, writing in an email, "That has not been talked about (to my knowledge). (That) would be very premature. I'd be very surprised if it ever got to that point."

With Cowher not in the mix, it looks like offensive assistant Mike Mularkey and defensive assistant Dom Capers will be. Mularkey coached the Bills, Capers the Texans, and both men offer even more options to Miami. :laughat:

A dark-horse candidate is Ravens defensive coordinator Rex Ryan, whose selection would make a ton of sense. The last three defensive coordinators in Baltimore -- Jack Del Rio, Marvin Lewis, Mike Nolan -- have gone on to successful NFL coaching careers, and these Ravens say that Ryan might be the most impressive defensive coordinator they've had

The comment about Baltimore D-coordinators is dubious at best. Those coaches havent done much really...

Jack Del Rio, Marvin Lewis, Mike Nolan....

What do all of those guys have in common?

Yes...they were all Raven DC's that got jobs....

They also happen to be out of the playoffs this year.

They also happen to not be what we would call successes.

No to Rex Ryan.

those 3 also have different styles (as does Ryan).

The only thing that will tick me off is if we go in house (unless we give the job to Dan Quinn), or go for an older retread (I'd give Mora Jr. a shot, Green or Martz, no)

I don't think that's really fair to say. Nolan is only a first year coach and the Niners look very promising. Lewis took the Bengals from a laughing stock to a a playoff-caliber team. And Jack Del Rio did the same in Jacksonville.

I wouldn't give 2 first rounders and 2 second rounders for any coach or player....and that seems to be the precedent.

Nolan is not a first year coach.

Those other two had very talented teams and they both did Wanny impersonations.

oops, you're right, seocnd year coach. But still, he has the Niners moving in the right direction.

I still don't think it's fair to say that Ryan will not be a good head coach just because those guys are not in the playoffs.

I am just pointing out that taking Raven DC's is a fad that we should not participate in as it hasn;t been succesful.

It's not like we are talking about the Bill Walsh tree.

The Raven tree is the tree of mediocrity.
