Article: More NFL people come to the defense of Ireland (good read in my opinion)

if jeff ireland killed somebody in the middle of times square, a certain percentage of finheaven, would find a way to clear him of any guilt.....
And if he built a top-ten defense, most of finheaven would call him a complete failure...

did he build a top ten defense or was Nolan that good as a coordinator. yardage wise we were not a top 10 defense last year though.
I can go with he built a top ten defense if you can admit he built a bottom 10 offense

Ireland evaluates the talent and nothing more. Our offense sucking was not his fault. Our offense was on fire after Sparano left and our offense melded to a new Quarterback. And you can't blame him for all those dropped passes in clutch time Marshall missed that easily is 3 more wins. All I care about when I hear about Ireland is if we have talent, And I truly believe we do, now I'm just waiting for someone to come along that can make the right plays and finish a game for us so we don't lose 6 games in the 4th like the past 2 years in a row.

And yards doesn't mean ****, remember San Diego was a few years ago...they were #1 ranked OFFENSE and DEFENSE and MISSED the playoffs. Not a fair evaluation.

Edit: FOUND IT, year 2010 http://www.nfl.com/stats/team?seasonId=2010&seasonType=&Submit=Go

Hmm so his talented line giving up a dolphin record amount of sacks has nothing to do with his talent evaluation.

Every team has weaknesses, maybe the Pats should fire Belichick because their defense finished 32nd. Please, Overall The fins are pretty talented IMO and I'm willing to sit through this next year and see how the new coaching staff plays out.

Course I'm pretty sure if we win 10 games nobody here will say it was because Ireland gave the coach a team to work with.

Well when Belichek can go to the superbowl with his 32nd ranked defense nobody has a problem with it, while we can even manage a winning season the last three years with the genius known as ireland. The dolphins talent is so overrated on this board. We have spent alot of money and picks on the oline and it was our biggest weakness last year

If we have another losing year I'll believe you, if we don't then vice versia. The drama starts to end or grow come September, I'll wait till then. Because I think its a coaching problem

Well i would have had more confidence if they could have kept Nolan as coordinator. This offseason has done nothing to inspire confidence in Irleland to this point. We didnt sign one full time starter from any team so far this offseason while we have lost a few. The Hicks signing to me is a horrid example of Ireland's approach to fixing oline. We could have signed Winston but chose to use that money on and up and down player like Richard Marshall. I mean do you really think the secondary was close to as big a problem as the oline.

Agree with that. Ireland only brings in the type of players the coaches require, and if the coaches aren't that great that is the issue. With Philbin on board I think we have a superior set of coaches now and I think Ireland will bring in players of the type Philbin requires i.e. less big, more athletic.

I am trying to see how Ireland is building a team here that will be winning multiple years in a row. Again I think people are hoping for a magic draft where you will find 6 starters in one year. We have capable players from the last few drafts with the exception of Long, Pouncey and vontae- you are not getting a team winning every year with this talent currently on the roster.

but did he build that top ten defense... or did parcells build it the first four years ireland was here????? kind of wish washy with what ireland gets credit for and what he doesn't... (another way to read that sentence for the pro ireland crowd... good=ireland did his job... bad=ireland was at the mercy of parcells decision making...)

fair enough, I have always said he has had wins and losses

Ireland is not the best or worst GM in the NFL, but everyone (fans, media) sees how mediocre we have been, and demands results. He doesn't spend free agency like it's Madden 2012 so everyone starts posting babble about how incompetent he is - why? Because the only miss I have seen so far is Peyton and that's not his fault - they reached and he wasn't interested.

Matt Flynn is not a Dolphin because Miami said he was not worth the price tag. (Philbin was interested but didn't think he was worth $8mil/year - if he said he was worth it, he'd be here.)

Alex Smith is not a Dolphin because Miami said he was not worth the price tag. (Who really thinks a guy who's best year in the NFL being 17 touchdown passes deserves $8mil/year+?)

I mean, that's the whole issue, right? The quarterback problem we have... well what do you expect them to do? Couldn't get Peyton and couldn't get those other two guys at a price we thought they were worth, what should they do? Realistically?

Nonstop babble, the NFL in real life does not play out like Madden does.
