Don't believe draft hoopla
By Matthew Barrows - Bee Staff Writer
Here's the one genuine piece of insider information you'll receive this week: Hardly anyone knows what he or she's talking about in the days leading up to the draft.
Many writers get their information from agents, who want to either stir up a feeding frenzy over one of their clients or take a flamethrower to another agent's guy. Others get their information from the teams.
For most of the NFL year, getting a tip from a team source leaves you with a big scoop. If you get a call on the eve of the draft, however, it usually means you're getting played.
"Oh, and as far as that 2005 draft is concerned, I was one of the two writers who, when asked by Nolan, correctly predicted that he would draft Smith.
"But if I told you I knew what I was talking about that day, I'd be lying through my teeth."
