PFT said:SABAN PUSHING FOR SAME-DAY TRIP
We're hearing that, although the Miami Dolphins have managed to cobble together hotel rooms at two separate facilities in Louisiana for the team's Sunday game against the Saints at Baton Rouge, head coach Nick Saban still wants to fly from Florida on the day of the game and fly back thereafter.
And we're told that Saban is expected to "snap" if the league ultimately sticks to its position that visiting teams are required to arrive the day before a game, given that the Chiefs flew from Missouri to Miami on Friday, hours before their game against the Fins.
We assume that the NFL's rule is intended to ensure that any unexpected travel delays won't cause a team to show up late for kickoff. But the league has a habit of making exceptions to rules when the terms of the rules don't mesh with what the league wants to do in a given situation, and the inability of the Fins to keep the entire team together and under one roof on the night before the game should be enough to prompt the league to make another exception.
The league, after all, is waiving its blackout rule so that the Saints' four games in Baton Rouge will be televised locally even if (as expected) none of them are sold out. If that rule can be softened given the unique circumstances that the league faces, so can the travel rule.
