Just saw this on Sun-Sentinel.com... I posted a few parts of it... (sorry if posted)
http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/...ov19,0,4269500.story?coll=sfla-dolphins-front
A journey across Nick Saban's NFL and collegiate coaching stops reveal that his defenses usually became dominant by his fourth season with the same team.
If Saban's track record holds to form, don't count on many of the Dolphins' current defensive stalwarts being around to reap the benefits. Saban overhauled the Browns' defense to such an extent that from the season before his arrival (1990) to the end of his tenure (1994), only defensive tackle Michael Dean Perry remained. The end result was a starting unit that contained four All-League selections (Perry, defensive end Rob Burnett, late safety Eric Turner and linebacker Pepper Johnson). Neither of the Browns' four-time Pro Bowlers -- cornerback Frank Minnifield and linebacker Clay Matthews -- survived the purge. So don't expect sentiment to be a factor in Saban's personnel decisions (see Ed Perry, Matt Turk, Heath Evans and Larry Chester).
But, Saban said, his defense was already dominant in 1993. "I don't think it was the people involved [on defense]," he said. "You know it's hard to win in this league if you don't have a quarterback."
Saban, who signed a five-year contract when he was hired in December, began his defensive facelift during the offseason. Seven of the 11 starters on defense weren't on the roster last season, including two rookies and five veterans who have a combined 47 years of NFL service.

In other words, don't be surprised if Saban trades Zach Thomas, Jason Taylor and Sam Madison.

In other words, don't be surprised if Saban goes after Matt Leinart in the upcoming draft.

Well...that might be a big stretch....unless we wind up inside the top 3 picks or something....which would be sad in itself...

I dont know why everyone has been posting recently about us going after a free agent quarterback.

Didn't we JUST try that? And look how succesful that turned out to be.

Saban is all about rebuilding this team, from the GROUND UP. Meaning, alot of draft picks (That wont be traded, he said before he hates doing that) and alot of young players. What better way to build a dynasty then to have all young players, who he molds into future stars.

Not to mention he's only been coaching in the college ranks for how many years? He knows who's gold and who isnt, and also has many friends in the same position to let him know who to draft.

So bottom line is, dont expect us to go after a QB through free agency. Expect us to try and trade up to get Leinart (that wont happen if the Texans are the first pick and they release Carr) or go with another young QB, perhaps if Quin declares, or Young or Jacobs (whoever is the best pick at the best time)

And as far as trading Zach and Jason, I dont think he will until we've picked up their replacements. They'll teach em what they know, and as long as they contribute to a winning team and a great defense, their jobs are safe. If not, expect a few decent draft picks from their departure.

Saban's got his head on straight. And although at some points this year we may question his decisions, he and everyone on his coaching staff are on the same page (unlike the fins a year ago). I have confidence that we will be the next dynasty to hit this league.

It just may take a few years.

Anyone upset by this?? I'm not, I think it's a shame for the guy's we've come to love on our team, but this game is about winning! Saban is a winner, and will be one here in Miami. I also don't like the fact that yet again we have HOF players spending their whole careers with us and they can't win because we have been one dimensional team for so long. Still, we are in for some strong years full of balance and talent and I have not had the pleasure of seeing this team all those things at once except on film & video....we're due! IMO, we are closer to a SB (right now) then we have been since Shula & Marino!

Whats interesting is that you bring up a good point. Will we care about the days of Taylor and Thomas when two new guys, or four, or six great players are making incredible plays and helping us win on defense?

If Saban can bring in great players, coach them brilliantly, and have them make plays on a consistent basis, then forget about Taylor and Thomas. There will be plenty of new stars for our team in the future. (lets not really forget about T&T, I love those guys)

Thats exactly what I was thinking...

only thing that made me very happy was....Quote:

Leinart baby! mueller already loves the guy.

You people are reading way too much into stuff. Guys will only get traded if someone is willing to give enough for them. It just doesnt happen unless you are a superstar. People wont give up much for players anymore. How can you deduct anything from this? You cant. The pros are much different than college by far and players are recycled differently. Saban was a coach with the Browns at a different time. Things have changed since then. I dont get how you people just knee jerk to everything you read.

And unless you plan on losing the rest of our games, Leinert will not be in our picture. I dont understand how everyone thinks we can just snag this guy up in the draft when everyone and there second cousin will be after him too.

Really?

So what do you think we could get for them??

Sad to say that Taylor and Zach will be gone within two years. Madison is gone next year.
