Article - Why staff doesn't allow corners to switch sides

I think the answer is easy.. It makes it easy for the other team to predict our defense.. If we go switching up personnel, their OC's wouldnt know how to call a game.. Kudos for PP in trying to keep the game competitive..

lol

I sort of understand the logic, because they're rookies, but when you're up against one of the best wideouts in the league and he's got 4 inches on you it seems kind of stupid to not even entertain the idea of switching. Not to mention it would hurt New England's ability to prepare because they wouldn't know what kind of coverage they'd be facing.

It is a bizarre philosophy to say the least...

Ok... Keeping the game simple for young players fair enough... But at what cost? Are you really going to allow Randy Moss to decide his matchup???? Isn't that giving them definite advantage and allowing them to carry the play????

I really cannot fathom how making Randy Moss' job easier in any way benefits us.

The truth is Randy was making the call about his matchup and he chose Davis every time... Doesn't that actually TELL YOU... HE DOESN'T WANT TO FACE SMITH?????

And we ignore it???? Wow. Professional.

It has a lot to do with how the safety lines up and how he can aid the CB, and how the CB's play in run support. I agree with the call. Besides, if we lined Sean Smith up across from Moss every play, how is that any less predictable than the CB's staying on the same side every play?

Smith has got burned all year, it should be even worse if not for a few over throws (I think 3 alone in the Panthers game). So ya, let's put him on Moss. Vontae is twice the corner Smith is right now, and likes to get physical and hit. I think Smith will get a lot better, but he has really looked like the rookie he is out there this year after a dominationg pre-season that had everyone on his jock.

After reading the article.. It reinforces the stupidity of the coaching staff and this is the perfect example of why this team will never see greatness.. How can you have a defender with 4" advantage taking on the smaller receiver while the taller receiver is being covered by the shorter guy??

Thats kinda like Serena having sex with Pee Wee Herman and Shaq having sex with Twiggy..

I've never really understood why some cornerbacks don't follow the best receiver on the team. The Raiders rarely move Asomougha which seems like a complete waste.

if we don't find different coordinators this next offseason, my opinion of our HC is going to change.

Height is just a number. Just because Smith is taller, doesn't mean he is a better match up against Moss. Moss doesn't like to be physical, which Smith is not as of yet.

The other thing is our safeties, if we were strong back there, maybe we do some switching. They are still not on the same page. I wouldlove some flexibility, but I think the way they are handleing the rookies is correct with a mediocre supporting cast. The last thing you want to do with a rookie is have them trying to do too much and lose confidence. Am I happy no, but we just don't have the supporting cast to move alot of people around right now.

And that my friends is why we will be 5-7 after tomorrow, its obvious you put s.smith on moss a highschool coach could figure that out, davis on welker gives us a better chance.

from the article:
Especially considering the way Moss kept seeking (and winning) matchups with 5-11 Vontae Davis,

Uhhh, except for the first pass that Vontae intercepted???

Did he miss that play? WTF
