As a Tannehill supporter since he was drafted

It hurts to say this but right now Geno Smith is a better QB than Tannehill. Geno is showing progress where Tannehill has backpedaled from average to less than average.

Let that sink in.

People want to stick with Tannehill for his "potential", but I think "this is all there is". This is his potential...nothing more...in that case...time to move on.

Well, I remember a few times when Henne would dump the ball off to a defender for an interception. Literally, a short dump off straight to a defender, with no Miami receiver nearby.

Yeah, but he would hit that defender right in the numbers!!!

It's year 3 bro, my ties are with the Dolphins not the quarterback. New system, new coordinator, this has nothing to do with how piss poor some of his throws are.

People who still think he's untouchable are falling into the same QB traps we have fell in before. Dude has played like **** and deserves the criticism.

That said, he's going to be the guy and I will never root for him to fail, but he just looks like a very limited QB. Poor ball placement, poor deep ball accuracy, gets stone feet when he should be using his athleticism, seems slow at processing information, is only comfortable with one throw (out route), not great at recognizing the defense, prone to taking sacks, moves around awkwardly in the pocket . . . . I'm hoping for a miracle but when has a miracle happened to the Dolphins in recent memory?

Great post.
RT seems to have only one throw that he can depend on, and that is the line drive 20 yard pass over the middle. Ask him to drop a pass in over a LB or safety, float a pass in stride to a RB to set up a screen, they are always off target.
The scheme is much better, but the ball placement takes away all the YAC.
Lazor will raise hell until Philbin has to make a change. If Philbin cannot take bold action, he can follow RT out the door.

Tannehill was a 2nd rd talent that we reached for with the 8th overall pick in the 2012 draft. I've always felt that Tannehill was only slightly better than Henne.

In the 2012 draft, what amazed me the most was that so many fin fans authoritatively declared that we now had a franchise quarterback. It was then that I knew that we were in for a few "Sanchise"-type years, before the fans would finally wake up to reality.

That said, I don't think Tannehill sucks. I just don't think he'll ever be elite. It is possible for teams to win the super bowl with mediocre QBs, but the rest of the team needs to be nearly flawless.

Preaching to the choir....posted elsewhere and thought then we should have given away whatever we had to move up for Luck......would have lost picks (which we would have most surely squandered anyway like we always do) and been mediocre (which we are now anyway) until we built it up around Luck but we'd have our Elite QB for the next decade plus and it could have all come together.

He's just not processing everything fast enough, and by being mentally sluggish on the reads/availability, that puts everything else behind, including avoiding pressure...he's too busy trying to complete a read that should have already been decided...also puts his throws just THAT much behind where they should be, killing accuracy...that's my take anyway.

The guy was way overdrafted and handed the keys to the kingdom from the get-go. He was never that good and is showing us the same stuff he put on tape in college. He got drafted high cuz he's tall and Philbin was married to Sherman and he was married to Tannehill.
It would he great if Lazor can be honest and say 'we need a new guy' in so many words come next spring. Tannehill is barely better than Henne.

Do the coaches instruct him to stand there and take the sack? RT has next to no pocket awareness. He doesn't see the sacks coming until it's too late to do anything about it. You can have all the athleticism in the world but if you can't sense you need to move your feet, that athleticism is useless.

100% correct, he also doesn't move to find passing lanes. The amount of passes he has tipped and batted down at the line is alarming.

If it makes you guys feel any better the Buffalo Bills were ready to draft Ryan Tannehill with their pick at 10 overall if you had passed on him. QB's get drafted early as there are very few of them and teams need to gamble on getting someone with an NFL skillset. The Dolphins rolled the dice with Ryan and the Bills did the same last year with EJ.

If you don't have a QB you need to take the chance. Good luck the rest of the year.

What longtime NFL scout Dan Shonka said about Ryan Tannehill:

2012 Guide: What Ourlads' NFL Scouting Services said about RYAN TANNEHILL: Texas A&M, 6037 221 4.65. Started 19 games at quarterback in his career and ran an NFL scripted offense installed by former Packer head coach Mike Sherman. He caught 11 passes for 143 yards before moving over to quarterback at mid-season in 2010. Played under center and also in the shotgun. A right-handed passer with good arm strength and athletic ability. Athletically Tannehill has certain critical factors and position specifics that are holding him back. Book smart but does he process football information quickly at the line of scrimmage or on the run? There were several cases where he could have easily run for a first down and he threw a poor pass or threw the ball away. Consistency was best against weaker opponents. Against Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Kansas State, Texas, and Oklahoma State his record was 0-6 and he had a 12/12 TD/INT ratio. He averaged 5.7 yards per attempt in three games completing 57% of his passes. His decision making and field vision are in question because of throwing into double coverage and forcing the ball into coverage. He doesn’t seem comfortable in the pocket. Throws best on roll out and sprint out type action. Ball placement has been inconsistent, struggling to put the ball where the receiver doesn’t have to adjust before running. Despite his tall stature his delivery point is low and gets several tipped passes. Must develop quarterback sixth sense in the pocket. He has the athletic tools to play quarterback, but lacks the game time experience of several quarterbacks coming out. He needs to improve on his accuracy, “feel” for the position, decision making, game management, and consistency. As a wide receiver, Tannehill caught 112 passes good for 4th in school history and gained 1596 yards which ranked him 5th on the Aggie all-time list. He also scored 10 receiving touchdowns. He is the only FBS player with 3000 passing yards and 1500 receiving yards to his credit. He also has a 400-yard passing game and a 200-yard receiving game. Grades out as a good backup who may be an eventual starter with developmental time. 2011 stats: 327/531, 3744 passing yds, 61.6%, 29 TDs, 15 INTs. Did not work out at the Combine. Second/third round. (A-32 5/8, H-9, SS-DNP, VJ-DNP).
