A lot of GMs nowadays will give coaches 1 year to prove themselves. Giants, Panthers, Jets, and the Packers way back when they had Ted Thompson did it.

Bottom line is if the GM thinks he can work with the coach he'll give it a try, if he doesn't the coach is gone.
