He has probably got away driving in this state before and didn't believe that it's a problem. When you are worth $1.6 Billion and everyone in the Indianapolis Colts organization is on the payroll and probably tells him what a terrific owner he is - making great decisions every second day. Even with the tweeting, many of the so called experts would just say that this is Jim just being Jim, the passion is what makes him such a great owner. Now today, they are saying that he has had a serious problem for some time.
Prescription substance abuse addiction is a serious problem in the US. In cities and towns across the nation, men and women think of drug addicts as someone getting high with a needle in his/her arm or snorting cocaine or smoking crack, but more likely it is the Mom or Dad who got a prescription of Xanax or Percucet refilled from their friendly Doctor Billy-Bob. Substance Abuse experts have been shouting about the addiction of middle America to prescription medication being an epidemic, but nobody has been listening because the pharmaceutical companies are making record profits and the States are starved for funding programs that try to highlight the issue because lobbyists are paid big money from Big Pharma to influence.
Jim Irsay should have been smart enough to address the problem himself, but brains don't run in his family. He was probably so wealthy that he thought he could get away with it. Now the ugly little secret is kind of public. Goodell and the network of old boys (ie the Maras, the Rooneys, the Krafts, etc) will be working their vast political contacts behind the scenes to clean things up. Did you ever see the movie, Michael Collins starring George Clooney. He worked in a senior role for a big law firm and his job was as a fixer to "clean things up" for seriously wealthy clients. Believe it or not, attorneys like Michael Collins really do exist and are probably billing overtime on this case. Problem now is that it's kind of out in the open and the fixer can't just make a few calls and clean it up. Thank you to an honest Indiana policeman.
What Commissioner Goodell needs is a good old fashioned distraction. Isn't there a franchise gay QB wanting to publicly come out of the closet and get married to his TE? Well if not today, maybe tomorrow.
The pantheon of ESPN and NFL Network analysts (ie all of the boviated TV football intellectuals) eg - Chris Boomer Berman, Tom Jackson, Mike Ditka, Cris Carter, Adam Schefter, Chris Mortenson, Heath Evans, Mike Mayock, Kurt Warner, Stephen A Smith, Skip Bayless and MIKE and mike (Golic and Greenberg) will all have something very profound and deeply moving about Jim Irsay being just a man with a problem needing all our prayers and some help from a trained substance abuse professional. However, the guy I want to hear is 70 year old Bill Polian, the old Colts GM who was fired by Irsay. Bill, who modestly describes himself as the GOAT (greatest of all time) NFL GM is still trying to gather his thoughts without smirking.
