The Atlanta Braves may be on the market. A statement released by the team Tuesday said Time Warner is exploring the possibility of selling the Braves and the Turner South cable network, which carries many of the Braves' games. "We have engaged an investment banking firm to help us assess strategic options for Turner South and a significant programming contributor to that network, the Atlanta Braves franchise, which may lead to the sale of one or both," Greg Hughes, the team's vice president of public relations and communications, said in the statement.

Personally, I'm surprised it hasn't happened already. Hey, maybe Ted Turner will buy them back!

I thought Ted still owned them. I would hate buying a team that has won 14 straight NL East titles but always chokes in the playoffs....the fans have gotten tired of it and rarely show up to see the Braves.

PHILLIES IN 2006.

First BILLIONARE TED loses WCW now his Braves.......the man is gonna snap when he finds this out about his Braves being for sale!

Maybe Mark Cuban is interested, he would be a great owner for that team. Think he was interested in Pittsburgh or some other team earlier.

actually Billionnaire Ted almost demanded that Time Warner sell them back to him about a year ago. they keep cutting the payroll each of the last several years... he may indeed be interested. say what you will about the Braves, but with their stacked farm system they will be around for some time to come. and let some new owner come in whose willing to spend another 25 million a year (they spend about 80 million on payroll currently, down from a peak of right at 100 million) and watch out.

oh and for what its worth: Turner has mentioned wanting to get back into the "wrasslin'" business as well. he has always been loyal to wrestling because when the superstation was just getting started it was his highest rated show for many years.

It's sad that the Braves can't even sell out playoff games. I was near Turner Field in October in 1999 and the Braves happened to be playing the Yankees in the World Series that night. I couldn't stay for the game because I had a plane to go home later that night however I went up to the box office just to see if there were any tickets left and to my surprise I could have gotten 4 seats 12 rows back from the Yankee dugout. How sad is that? I was figuring they would have standing row only or maybe the last row in the OF but 12 rows back from the visiting dugout? How is that possible? Fans are just so tired of winning I guess, the best thing for the Braves might be to tank the next 86 years and then decide to win it all (it worked for the Red Sox and White Sox).

To be fair Ted got screwed out of the Braves when AOL bought Time Warner. They just kicked him out which was very unexpected.

As for WCW, that was Ted's own fault. He threw out big contracts to just about any wrestler from the WWF/E and made tons of bad money decisions like paying KISS over 5,000,000 bucks to get rights to make a wrestler based on them and also paid bands like Megadeath, and Master P millions of bucks to entertain the crowd during TV commerical breaks. I could list a million things WCW did wrong but I'm sure no one cares or wants to hear it.

True but if you're running a 9 figure company you should have some sense on what to do what not to do.

I do.......I use to love WCW but I got tired of it. I would like to know what else they did cause I was young and didn't realize half of these things when I watched.

He has a no compete claus stating he has to wait a little while longer before he get back into pro wrestling.

as much as i hate the Braves, i'd hate for them to be sold. I enjoy watching them on Superstation i think they do a very good job with broadcasts there. Though if they are sold i hope they get moved. Because when their playoff run ends those fair-weathered frauds in Atlanta will be as bad as the Marlin fans. Though while the Braves are good they sure do like to brag about their division titles and ring...s...wait no just ring.
