Auburn defensive tackle Patrick Sims, a graduate of Dillard High School, spent the last two days visiting with the Dolphins, according to a source.

Sims, a projected late first-round or early second-round choice in the NFL draft, falls into a group of defensive tackles behind Glenn Dorsey of LSU and Sedrick Ellis of Southern California.

The Dolphins interest in the 6-2, 310-pounds Sims could be an indication that they don't intend to use the overall No. 1 for Dorsey.

im big on this kid was hoping to possibly get him later though, guess not

When Sims ran a 5.06 40 at the combine and then ran a 4.80 at his Pro Day, his stock shot up into the lower first or early second round. The only think about Sims that I didn't like about his workouts is that he only did 20 bench press reps.

The 20 bench reps is a cause for concern. There is alot of question marks surrounding this guy such as the lack of experience, his motor has been questioned and so has his desire to play football. I dont know if i want to spend anything higher than a 3rd on him right now.

Im not quite buying the 40 time from his pro day either. I looked over some of those numbers and there was a big disparity with the 40 times. Guys were running anywhere from a tenth to 2 tenths faster their 2nd time thru. My guess is the scouts added time to it and probably put him in the 4.9 area.

Still a 4.9 is not anything to sneeze at from a guy w/his size. His BP #s are not that much of a concern. If he had only done 6reps I'd be worried. Look at Jared Allen for the Chiefs, he only did 9 reps at combine. Some people are born to Press and some people are not.

Jared Allen actually did 13 reps. Your looking at Jared Allen a QB from FAU.

Upper body strength isnt as big of a deal for a 4-3 defensive end. He isnt supposed to control the gaps like a 3-4 end. Teams give up size and strength for quickness and speed. In the 3-4 Sims needs to be able to control his gaps. 20 reps is a cause for concern. The speed thing would be fine if we were in a base 4-3 and needed an upfield pass rush. Its not a big deal in the 3-4.

I really depends on the type of 3-4 we run. If it's the old Parcells type of 3-4, then Sims being able to control his gap is very important. If it's the Wade Phillips type of 3-4, then the ability to get upfield is just as important and this is what Sims is very good at.

I know Parcells is running the overall show but Sparano and Pasqualoni saw how having a little more overall team speed transformed Dallas' defense under Phillips.

We arent running a one gap 3-4. Parcells brought these guys in specifically to run what he wants which is the two gap. However, if they did decide to go to a one gap, Sims would probably play the nose.

I don't see us taking a DT at 32...we're gonna talk to 30 guys before the draft and we're not gonna draft them all.

Ozzy rules!!

Well from overall appearances this makes you think OL with our first pick unless Sims is a smoke screen because we did spend 2 days with the kid and it appears he might be there at #32. So line em up right now OT, DT, CB which leave the G and WR for day 2 plus I expect a TE and maybe QB.
