MIAMI -- Tony Sparano lost his ninth straight game as Dolphins head coach Sunday against the Denver Broncos. Now, the waiting game begins to see if he's the first coach to lose his job this season.

It's not a matter of "if" but "when" Sparano will get fired. It could come as early as this week. Reports recently surfaced that Denver was a must-win game for the embattled coach. Instead, Miami blew a 15-point, fourth-quarter lead at home to suffer an embarrassing, 18-15, overtime defeat.

Sparano has been given every chance to turn Miami around by Dolphins (0-6) owner Stephen Ross, who was at the game.

"I have not talked to Steve Ross," Sparano said after the loss.

Expect there to be internal conversations on Miami's future this week. Miami is going nowhere this year, and it doesn't appear the Dolphins will be favored to get their first win any time soon.

The Dolphins play their next two games on the road against the New York Giants (4-2) and Kansas City Chiefs (3-3).

Ross needs to hold off until At least week 17. He can fire both Ireland and Sparano prior to the last game and have a one week jump on the Giants, if needed, to sign Cowher.

the giants want Cowher too damn this teams are so greedy!! The colts got Peyton but no thats not enoght they want Andrew Luck and the Giants got a coach that took them to the superbowl but noo now they want Cowher.
And then there us the poor dolphing without Luck and without a good headcoach like Cowher we havent won a superbowl in almost 38 years when do we get our "Lucky" break???

If the Giants fire Coughlin Cowher will wind up there. They have a much better current situation.

Everyone knows Tony is a dead substandard HC walking... and understands why! At this point, it's almost cruel and inhuman punishment to leave him out there twisting in the wind. The way Ross did an end-around with Harbaugh, stabbing TS in the back has been subject to all sorts of speculation and reports of how offputting that was to quality coaches like Cowher.

However, at this point, forestalling the inevitable, sending Tony out with visible angst on post game and Monday pressers when everyone, including himself, is aware how the end game will play out, surely must be viewed with as much if not even more disdain by potential coaching candidates. It's not constructive IMO, in our quest to impress the kind of HCs we need.

More like Cowher wants the Giants.

Coughlin, in 7 years as the Giants head coach, they have started no worse than 5-2 every year. They are in first place right now, with this suck team next. I wouldn't count on him being fired.

hell, I'd take Coughlin in Miami at this point...

Cowher will be the Dolphins head coach next season
