One thing you've got to keep in mind, like it or not, this is a very arrogant regime with Parcells and Ireland. They know better than anyone else --- and most times they do, but sometimes they don't. And in the case with Booker, Phila raped us. Book will have a very positive career with the Eagles and we'll be hearing ad infinitum “he didn’t fit our system.” I say BS. Since when doesn’t a young playmaker fit into a “system?” (Yea, I know he's not 6-2 225lbs but he's got legit gamebreaking skills!)
For those who remember, this is a direct contradiction to what Sparano stated about “fitting the system to our personnel.” Obviously, there’s a disconnect between certain aspects of the vaunted “trifecta.” Sparano was also very high about getting Book more involved in the offense --- singling him out on his early evaluation of the roster. One way or another, we trashed one of the bright spots we had on offense for a 4th round pick. Sorry, I see no value in that and consider the trade a flat out loser (grade F).
But here’s the big one to me; the JT trade opportunity was handled very poorly. Obviously we were trying to trade the guy --- so many reports with credible sources are not erroneous, and even WH stated publically JT would be better off somewhere else, yet we blow the deal. DelRio was very candid about the discussions, to which Ireland obviously lied at the PC on Saturday. If you doubt this, check out his reaction to the question about the JT trade at the end of the tape on the Fins website. Put simply, JT to Jax was a perfect scenario for all parties concerned but our greed exploded in our face.
Bottom line, no way JT was going to command a #1, but we played hard ball with Jax and they simply went to option B --- and traded aggressively on two occasions to get their outside rusher. The 2nd round pick we could have put in the bank vanished, and with that we’re left with a player that doesn’t fit into our plans and doesn’t want to be here. IMO that lands an F grade to an opportunity that was a no brainer. And the denial as a means of covering backsides is absolutely totally armature crap.
As far as the draft, all in all I like the focus on the LOS, and contrary to what some have been saying around here --- our RB situation has a lot of serious questions. Ronnie’s return to form and RW’s dependability being the obvious concerns. So investing in a few big backs with upside is a good move.
We did reach at least twice in the draft (Langford and Murphy) but I don’t have a big issue with that in the middle/latter rounds. Overall, our draft looks quite solid on paper. And that’s what really sucks --- if we hadn’t botched the JT trade the draft could have been spectacular. But then again, that’s ALL just my opinion…
