B Marsh Says Philbin wanted the trade

I don't believe a word of this, particularly the part in bold. A coach in the mold of Philbin, and particularly where he is in his tenure, is not going to play that hand.

^ This exactly. Can't see Philbin talking like that, but I can see BMarsh screwing with people and starting rumors. Also don't see Marshall walking in and going, "what are your plans for the #1 WR?" Odd way to start a talk.

I can certainly see BM making up this story more than believing Philbin saying what BM told his buddy/client/whatever.

Maybe Philbin wants the recieving corps to be similar to that in GreenBay. They honestly don't have a true #1 reciever. The hit the open guy and play match-ups created by the playcalling. This way of running an offense makes it extremely difficult to gameplan against.

This of course is me trying to rationalize.

Problem is Green Bay has a bunch of above average receivers. We now have Hartline (way below average - was hardly cuttin git as a number 2), Clyde Gates (did nothing at all last season. might end up being good but we can't just depend on it), Bess (above average slot receiver).

BM may have had better trade value until he once again showed his true colors in NY therefore forcing Miami to only get two third rounders. If you want to be upset a compensation blame the diva himself not the FO.

You have a point. Maybe the trade was for more and when the NY thing came out the Bears lowered the price so Mia cut and ran.

Good point.

I love how some of you guys are saying the Fins have no plan and free agency is all of 2 days old. I'm glad none of you are running the team.

In the WCO the ball is distributed all over the place. Ever watch a Packers game? See how Rogers would have completions to like 9 different players?
Marshall would not be OK with that. He wants to be the #1 in an offense that doesn't really need one. He no longer fit in the plans and they got something for him instead of keeping him, having him sulk all year or better yet, end up getting nothing for him after he gets a suspension for some type of domestic dispute (which I hate to say just seems like the way things are going for him).

Is he a good receiver? Yes! Is our offense worse off for not having him. Right now, yes. But let free agency, trades, the draft and the last round of cuts in training camp play out before you get all flustered. It's a long way to go to week one of the 2012 season.

But I know, it's better to just hate Ireland and rip the franchise than it is to be patient. So rip away.

Excellent post. if only everyone had this point of view.

I am really going to miss Marshall running out of bounds like a drunken sailor with nobody between him and the endzone. He is in the perfect place now, reunited with Cutler who will throw the ball to anybody at anytime, even if its the other team. Nobody is going to anti up a lot for a reciever who has on the field problems, and bigger off the field problems right up until the night before he is traded Not to mention one with a big contract. Were lucky we got what we did for him, and aren't stuck with him talking down the new staff, and qb with him.

You guys are killing me. The FACT of the matter is, Marshall had more DROPPED TD's than any of our other receivers had TD catches and still ended the season with more TD catches than all of them. So the bottom line is that he was our BEST receiver and its not good practice to trade your best player for 2 3rd round picks, especially when you don't have a track record of drafting well that deep into the draft. If this was the Green Bay GM making this decision I'd be fine with it as he has a history of finding Great talent in the draft but Do any of you trust Jeffy boy to find good value with those two pics? I don't. Even if they used their first round pick on a WR the odds of him being more productive in his first couple of years than Brandon Marshall was here are not good. I don't care about him getting into fights at night clubs as long as it doesn't affect his play on sundays. We knew what we were getting when we signed him now all of a sudden we want a Chior Boy? Puhllleeassee.. B Rothilsburger was accused of rape twice i believe and he wasn't traded, why??? Because teams usually don't trade thier best players unless they're hurt.

I have no reason to doubt this trade was in the making, and the scenario you cite is indeed possible...but the timing befuddles me. Other than the Bears (who wanted to reteam Marshall and Cutler), who else would give up anything for a WR when there were going to be plenty of good free agent ones available that same day?

IMO, Marshall should have been used as bait in a draft day deal...AFTER the Dolphins had signed one of the free agents as his replacement.
