I posted some time ago that I thought we could be OK with the LB's we had. I thought the much improved DL would cover any shortcomings. Now, I'm having my doubts.

Jenkins is rock solid, and not included in the potential problem. Sheppard is OK in the middle as a 2 down guy. I think Misi will be good in the middle, and better at OLB. So, that works in our base D. However, Misi is reminding us all of how fragile he has been. McCain has not stepped up. Tripp, Virgil, Hull, Luc, and Paysinger are anyone's guess as to what they can contribute this year.

Misi was our 2 guy in the 2 LB package with Jenkins which we mostly used. Who else fits here in coverage?

I had thought we may look to a trade with Philly for M, Kendricks but, Kelly has said that he is staying. Don't know of any other possible options.

Opinions on having to make a move or, going with what we got?

How do you know McCain isn't stepping up? That's inconclusive we haven't seen him. Vigil looks very good. I'd start vigil over Sheppard.

I will be paying close attention to Vigil these next three games. With Misi out I am hoping he gets a few game reps with the 1's this game.

I'm just going by the available info. I do not believe that anyone can say he has earned the starting OLB job, as many thought he was going to do.

I do not see any rookie as starting material. Showing well vs 2's and 3's, while nice, does not matter that much.

For a 2nd year guy, out of position, who didn't get much playing time last year, no news is good news. I'm also high on Vigil. I don't necessarily want him to start right away but I have no issues giving him the opportunity to earn it. Our Dline is good enough barring injuries to mask some of what he lacks athletically.

I have not been able to watch practice but it would seem that Vigil will make the team. That will give us 6 with Jenkins, Misi, and McCain as locks. I think Tripp and Shepard make it. I think that will be it.

I also like what we have but, major questions for this year. On McCain, the news has been disappointing with no news and no plays. JMO

Was thinking the same thing. At worst, he just hasn't ran away with anything. Hopefully tonight will get us a little bit closer to knowing some things....

Depending on special team's play, I can see keeping 7. IMO, Sheppard is also a lock. Past that, I just don't know. Hopefully, we can see more to sort out the puzzle tonight.

The ideal situation for me would be Vigil legitimately earning the middle with Misi moving back outside. The coaching staff has to be thinking about life after Misi at this point, it doesn't matter how solid someone may be on the field if they continuously have trouble staying there. Then McCain could continue to rotate in on the outside and the Dline developing until Misi goes down again, and he has to hold down the spot.

I think he's more of a lock at this point than Tripp - given Misi's injury history and our lack depth at the Mike.

I'm not down on McCain but, he was penciled in as a starter and has not yet grabbed that opportunity. I thought that many were too high on him after a highlight play, and would need another year to develop. I really hope I was wrong.

Who do you have playing in a 2 LB set if Misi (who did it last year) is out? I cannot name a good option.
