Now that we've signed DC and released Gus, do you think its possible that we just have Lemon as our second string and then sign Brock Berlin from Nfl Europe to be third, instead of signing a journeyman veteran as a backup. We culd probably save a lot of cap space that we could use to sign other area of needs such as OL and DB.

We might go after McCown or somebody like that, there is still a chance that Culpepper isn't ready for opening day. Just a guess.

we cant go after mccown , he is going to want a starting position.......

something a bit more realistic would be like warner.....

ummmmm, The Cards let McCown go because Dennis Green WANTS Warner as the starter.

I think we should look at Tommy Maddox as a back up if he comes cheap. Or resign Frerrotte.

We didnt give up a pick in the Lemon trade for no reason.

NO MADDOX!!!! he has lost his ability to avoid pressure and his release is really slow.

My hunch says Gus resigns as a nice insurance policy to make sure DC is 100% ready if he is to go on opening day, or come in relief during a game, etc.

agreed. i think we should pick up Maddox.

Do I trust lemon? He has already had half a season to learn the offense and the coaches must see something in him to give up a pick instead of just releasing feeley

To me, it's a no brainer. I like Frerotte. He won out last season. He has no learning curve; he already knows the offense. He may not be a legitimate NFL starter (#28 in passer rating last season), but in terms of games won, he's probably the best backup in the NFL. He's our best bet as a backup; even as a starter at the begining of the season if Daunte isn't ready. And it won't cost us a draft pick or much money or cap room to sign him.

Gus would be the best option. He is familar with our playbook and our team. He would also come at a nice price. If we can't sign Gus back, hopefully we sign Ramsey. But he may be too expensive.
Mcknown is possible, not warner. But I think he wants to start.

We need someone that could come and play if DC can't go the first couple of weeks.

I definitely say Frerotte, he knows our offense, and he backed up Culpep before in Minnesota. If we can work something out financially, he would be the best choice.
