The play call by Linehan was fine. After watching the play, if gus looks anywhere except for Chambers and Brown he scores a TD. McMicheal was open right behind chambers and Booker had 1 on 1 up top. Hate to start another thread about this but it seemed like something u guys might wanna know.

Please stop using Gus as an excuse!!

We know what we got with Gus. WHY OH WHY continue to rely on him for crucial yardage when we got playmakers (R&R) who we can easily rely on for 5+ yards a carry??!!!

That was a dumb play call. Point blank!

my point is that it could have easily been a succesful play regardless of the call

And a dumb throw. Why cant Gus just run into another concrete wall and get hurt? That seems to be the only way he will get benched. With Linehan licking his buttcrack and Saban agreeing to it all I dont think we see Gus on the bench this year at all.

Actually it was a bad play call and poor execution.

It was a bad play call because it didn't allow us to take what they were giving. Even though it was 3rd and 2 they were expecting the pass. They didn't even try to disguise thier defense. Linehan had called a pass play on each and every third down prior in the game, every time. He maintained his unsuccessful trend (0/8) and called another one this time and because Gus wasn't allowed to check out of it, thats what we ran. Atlanta wasn't even defending the first down marker, they were defending the goal line. Any run to the right side of the line of scrimmage would have been suitable, and it was obvious before the ball was snapped.

Even though the play call was poor, Gus still forced the the ball into double coverage. Furthermore, he locked on to Chambers all the way and telegraphed his throw. Even if Gus had gone through his progressions, Atlanta had very good coverage on the play, seven on four. Sadly, Gus' only good option on that play was to throw it away.

So if we are dishing out the blame on that final play, both Linehan and Frerotte deserve some.

i highly agree with that but also think that linehan has very bad play claling. the wya thigns are going so far, we wont see RB become that great RB cuz he willbe holding him back due to 12 carries a game.

Seriously, what is going thru a play-caller's mind when the offense is virtually pounding the D-line into submission with the running game only to call a pass play on the game's most important play???? That's getting to frickin' cute and that's what I don't like about Linehan, he's too exotic. He over-complicates things for this offense.

Its not an excuse, its a reason. Theres a difference.

And im sorry, but if a QUARTERBACK cant make a successful quick pass without throwing an interception or an incomplete, then why even have him? Why not snap the ball to Ricky or Ronnie and circumvent the entire quarterback experience.

Or why not put someone in who can make a ten yard pass. Just a suggestion.

And not an excuse.

As far as the playcalling aspect goes, if Gus threw the ball to McMichael and it was a touchdown, you would be heralding Linehan as a great playcaller. I can hear it now, "He changed it up just when he needed to. they were expecting a run and we tossed it in. Great call!"

But no, Gus threw the ball to a man double covered and we lose. So now its linehans fault.

Come on people. Think.

Not really man. Why run the risk of Gus making a bad throw when you were virtually running the ball down their throats with R&R. It most definately was bad play-calling............ or should I say getting too cute........

Totally agree here. I just do not get how pass could enter his mind at any 3rd and short situation. Pass should NEVER enter his mind unless Ricky/Ronne/Sammie/Travis all were in the infirmary!!

They were killing them out there and the O-line was getting so completely into it. I mean talk about not having a pulse on your own personnel.

I hate to say it but Linehan was set for criticism long before that final play.

Oh ya............like that double reverse we tried to run........... I was beyond frustrated at that point. I can't believe professional play-calling can get like that.
