Barbaro Takes Turn For The Worse

Think it might be time to put the big fella down

As much as I hate to see an animal die over that, I have to agree, everything was going so well about 2 weeks ago. Amazing how things change

If he is not able to stand or walk then being euthanized might be the best thing. :( Just hope he is able to recover.

If he's not able to stand or walk, euthanasia will be the only thing

That's too bad.

Not a big fan of Horse racing nor Dog racing.
Not a fan at all actually.

Horses are amazing and intelligent animals.
They don't have a say as to what sacrifices for "sports" they are willing to make like we can.

Kind of worthless to see em shot up with all kinds of drugs and run into the ground simply for gambling.

Yep, had Barbaro in the Kentucky derby 5 bucks to win, seen him live at Gulfstream, and was impressed with what I saw in the FL Derby. Its a shame, I really felt he probably could win the Triple Crown, he had all the tools. I don't believe the owners care to much about him not racing anymore, but it would be a tremendous blow if he can't survive and begin breeding offspring, thats where the real money in horse racing is. Barbaro would get 50 million minimum for his breeding capabilities. I have never seen so much support for one horse, not even Charismatic who won the Derby and Preakness, and finished third in the Belmont despite suffering a horrific leg injury during the race, got this much attention and support, simply amazing.

I thought he would win the Triple Crown also. First time coming out of the Derby I believed a horse would do that since Spectacular Bid.

Funny, during the post parade of the Preakness I said to myself Barbaro looked so robust, not nearly as fragile as the typical thoroughbred. i almost felt like I jinxed him when he broke down.

When he broke through the gate I no longer thought he would win that race. But then it was stunning to hear the race caller say Barbaro pulled up with an injury.

This is terrible news today. Franky, I don't even want to read the articles. Hate to say it but I'm expecting the worst news Friday or Saturday.

Well he is doing better this morning, he actually slept on his side they say so I mean I really would like to see him come thru. I am one of the few who think he hurt himself when he broke thru the gate early. I think when he broke thru he landed on his back 2 legs awkwardly and he tweaked sumthin, and then a normal misstep when racing finished the job. He is alive right now because of Edgar Prado, a fantastic job pullin the horse up, not a easy task at all with a horse of that magnitude and adrenaline.
