Was told on Wednesday that the Dolphins have summoned LSU offensive tackle La'El Collins to Davie for one of their 30 permitted pre-draft visits.

If the Dolphins select Collins at 14, he would likely be moved to guard.

Here's what CBSSports.com's Rob Rang had to say about Collins, who is projected to be taken in the teens or early 20s:

"There are two basic truths evaluators have grown used to when scouting LSU: For one, the team will be loaded with talent. Second, the talent is so rich so that the best players rarely use all of their collegiate eligibility before leaving for the NFL. Unlike many of his former teammates, Collins elected to return for his senior season despite the fact that he reportedly earned a first round grade from the NFL Advisory Committee.

I'll give them one thing, they've done a fantastic job of making sure nobody on Earth outside of their boardroom knows what they are planning on doing.

Interesting: So, he had the 'talent' to be a first round pick, but he stayed, got a whole extra year of experience, and he's still 'meh' as a first round pick? Yuk.
Would he be rated in the top 40 guards in the NFL?

Sounds like a reach at 14. Was Hickey right about Juwan James or just lucky? This draft will tell.

If you are putting together an actual realistic top 5 potential picks for Miami at 14 . . . this guy would probably have to be on your list.

Not a fan at all of drafting an offensive lineman top 15 again . . . but if I'm predicting what Miami is gonna do, he's one of the guys.

21 bench presses is not a great number for him and you'd project him inside because he'd be a liability in pass pro at tackle in the NFL. He's a solid run blocker and the move inside should mask some of the pass blocking issues

I agree with Gonzo.

So many different positions brought in that nobody can pinpoint anything.

So true, said that in another thread, on top of the fact we could use upgrades in so many positions makes it a mystery.

Which is why the Gurley hype is real. We are just on the outside of getting elite talent and Gurley literally will probably be the only legit elite prospect on the board. I'm not a fan of taking an injured back that high . . . but I could understand it in this situation.

If Gurley is not the target, Miami has gotta trade down because more than likely they are gonna reach for somebody at 14.

His knee has checked out fine and he will likely be ready for TC. He's a top 10 talent. Many also don't realize that he's also a good receiver out of the backfield. Runs with power and speed. A complete back.

His knee won't fully be checked out until he gets back on the field and trusts it. Recovering from any type of knee injury is just as mental as it is physical.

Optimistically I'd like to think he'll be fine, but there should be legit concerns as well.

Actually he looked terrific at the Combine. Perhaps the most impressive O-lineman on all of the drills - he looked very athletic and made no mistakes. His gametape on a good college team in LSU is pretty good too. The instant success of players like Odell Beckham Jr, Jarvis Landry and others from the LSU system tells me their coaching staff does a good job in preparing players for the NFL. He could be a decent O-line option if we trade down.

Maybe they really do plan to pick the best player available and don't even know for sure who that is at this time. They have seen what these guys do on the field which is certainly a big part of determining BPA. However, they also certainly want to look at mental/emotional make up before deciding who will actually be a productive NFL player.

Landry a player they trust probably has insight of who Collins is and how he plays like.

Would be disappointed with this pick depending on whose left, I would be okay if we trade down and he's there tho.

If we take an o-lineman at #14 it damn well better be Scherff and NOT Collins. Scherff is rated higher and for a damn good reason. He is flat out better than Collins in every area.

Adding a top shelf offensive lineman like Collins would immediate address the team's most troublesome area, but it would mean the Dolphins have used a fourth first-round pick on an offensive lineman since 2008.

Dam Ireland!!

Don't get mad if the Dolphins take Collins at 14. Especially, if Scherff, Wayne, and Parker are off the board. Guard is currently a disaster. The draft is LOADED at WR grab one of the low hanging fruits in the 4th round. (Greene, Crowder,Funchess,Smelter) I believe one of the top 4 LB's will be there in the 2nd round for us to take.

1st Guard
2nd LB
4th WR
Back to back 5th CB / SS / SF
6th Gem hunting
