Barry Jackson: Dolphins Day 2, Intriguing receiver battle

Nope. I got a nasty virus even though it is the middle of the summer. I got major drugs to fight it and I am sitting here watching football. I am enjoying myself outside of not being able to swallow….and Tannenbaum and McGinnest.

Based how sick I feel, I felt I had the authority to vent.
Strept?

Ga has put up a good thread BUT, only if people bother to read and reply to it. :) Instead of that, why not make it about nonsense. We do not have enough of those kind of threads here.

LOL. They say no, but I feel differently.

Nah, they are all dumb.

Take the juice of one bottle of vodka, mix it with the juice of one bottle of OJ, drink the whole thing, and post in the morning, IF ya can. :)

I am thinking about it…lol. I NEVER have been sick in the summer. I am getting old. At least TC is here to talk about.

Unless Wallace breaks out and has the season his talent is capable of delivering, we won't have a top receiver corps.

Hartline is a nice cog in the machine, but won't improve in yardage beyond what he already delivers and won't be a TD machine in his career. Gibson's ceiling is probably 8 or 900 yards and 8 or 9 TDs. Not shabby, but also not top half of the league. Matthews and Landry can be great inside players with physicality and YAC potential, but are unlikely to be elite in terms of yards and TDs.

It's all about Wallace, if we're talking about a performance that transforms our offense. He's the guy who has to add maybe 500 yards and 8 TDs to his production last year if we want to add playoff-level offensive output to our season. The rest of the roster can really only be expected to make incremental improvement.

Over to you Mike...

Back to the thread. We have 4 good possession WR's, none of which having VG speed or size. Does that matter in the larger scope of things? Maybe the TE's could provide size in the red zone but, have nor shown it. How important is this?

Matt Hazel needs to make the team. Outside of wallace he has the most speed. Hes also possesses a terrific vertical, with precise route running he will get open

Wallace, Hartline, Gibson, Landry, and Matthews are our first five. IMO Matthews will separate and be an obvious choice. He has too much experience on game day to not make it. The only way he doesn't is if someone else will have to shine brightly. IMO also we keep 6 WR's this year. Binns will be #6. Hazel and Stephen Williams are practice squad candidates. This is just how I see it turning out.

And 20 notes, quotes, tidbits, and thoughts.

Wallace, Hartline, Landry, and Binns are the starters, with Thigpen and Hazel making the final 6. Thigpen can also play running back and returner so he takes the 5th spot.
Matthews and Gibson are gone. Williams to practice squad.
The 6th receiver is a vulnerable spot. Depending on other injuries, Hazel could be cut as well at some point unless he flashes in games early..

i'm not convinced hazel will make it to the practice squad. if he does it's because the coaching staff knows before preseason who they want to keep and hides him by limiting his playing time.

With the chemistry RT and Gibson have I would be shocked if Gibson doesn't make the final roster.

I'm trying to understand the love for Hazel, a 6th round pick from Coastal Carolina over Matthews, and have no idea what anyone is talking about. I think he would be very lucky to make the practice squad.

I don't get it either really, I don't quite understand people's love for Binns either. I see Mathews as our 5 wr and feel like he'll make the team. I would probably keep Hazel over Binns though. Binn's has been around for a few seasons and while i do like him and see improvement in him he seems like he's made of glass. doesn't matter how good you are if you can't stay on the field.

Interesting that Jackson thinks Mathews would have no value in trade...I'm not so sure about that...I think late round is possible to a team with a similar o to ours...but even as the 5th wr to me he's more valuable to us than the return given the cheap rookie contract and our wrs aren't exactly showing to be the most durable bunch
