Barry Jackson: Miami could be F/A Players?

Isn’t this the time though to be more aggressive than usual? Not only is the market potentially lower in spending power due to the cap, but most of the deals signed could be easily cut (3-4 years) by the time the treasure trove of draft picks require 2nd contracts. Let’s take advantage!

I'm always for smart, fiscally responsible signings.

I'm not opposed to signing many players that fit that criteria.

As a fan I am going to want all of them to excel, when, in reality, it's likely that some won't even succeed.

Don't you have to have it to spend it?
That won’t be a problem if they really want someone. I think a lot of people will be surprised how little some UFAs are offered because of cap crunches around the league. Miami is in great position because they have very few to re-sign and have cuts that could be made and perhaps a restructure or two (which I don’t advocate unless really needed) that could clear more. Also, you could push money to 2022 and beyond in anticipation of the cap growth.

We're in the top 3rd of the league with available cap space, so I'd imagine we'd be in the top 3rd of the league in spending the money as well.

I think we will add more players than most think but they will be cheaper signings. I'll go by positions with my thoughts.

I can't see us spending 15-20 mill a Year on a WR. I think we draft them and if we sign a FA it will be someone in the 5-8 mill a year range. Something like Curtis Samuel/Marvin Jones/Keelan Cole.

I don't think we will sign Corey Linsley but I could see Andrews over Karras for an extra 1.5 mill a year. Or we could grab someone cheap and decent like Austin Reiter.

There are some slot CB's I like for the price. Mike Hilton would be a serious upgrade IMHO and should be cheap at 4-5 mill a year. Troy Hill and Brian Poole are other possibilities.

I don't see much at FS, maybe Jaquiski Tartt or Duron Harmen. Maybe Tre Boston on a prove it deal? The other guys are too much money.

We could use help at Mike. I can't see Lavonte David leaving the Bucs to come here. K.J. Wright looks possible. Denzel Perryman would give us a 2 down run stopper. With our scheme...amoeba....to anywhere from four to two LB'ers....I think a smart experienced vet would help the most immediately.

I could see 4 or 5 swing OT's in the 4-6 mill a year range that good be good adds for depth. Davis played a lot last year and we have a lot of young guys. Adding a Wagner/Feiler/Remmers/Hurst/Nsekhe could be cheap protection and prevent a lost season. I even think some of those names could be possible solutions for a starting RT if necessary.

We need edge and there isn't much in the draft. I think we look for cheaper guys that we feel might have some upside. A few that catch my eye are: Trey Hendrickson/Aldon Smith/Romeo Okwara/Deatrich Wise/Tyus Bowser/Tarell Basham.

So I don't think we are going for any home runs. Just looking to improve on existing players when we can do so at minimal cost per improvement.

P.S. I'd look to draft RB but Jamall Williams but be worth signing for 3 mill a year. I trust him to pick up the blitz and can't say that about rookies and who we have.

While that is technically true, after signing the rookie class there isn't much left for big name FAs. The reality is most teams are cap challenged this year. Top third isn't what it would normally be.

As @Andyman said, it's possible to restructure (we don't have many viable cuts that would make a huge difference, without creating other issues), that may not be the best approach as far as flexibility down the road.

Our "window" is just cracking open now. Let's not do anything rash just for a short term sugar buzz, with a 5 course meal cooking.
