Barry Jackson: Notes 11/27

Glad to see the comments by Anarumo regarding OV. You can see the difference the last few games. Hopefully, that continues.

I read Lazor's comments about Parker twice. Still not sure what he is saying....

Me either. Lazor is an honest guy, but he does not want to throw the rookie under the bus. So he made a completely confusing comment.

I agree on Parker. I'm not sure what to read into that. I think in an effort to be "honest" he really made things confusing. Is he saying Parker isn't performing when the lights are on or that his foot hurts and it is hampering him? If he's practising full speed, I got to think the foot feels fine.

Lazor's answer to 3rd down failures is saying he hopes we're never in 3rd down. Great. Expect more trick plays and smoke and mirrors on 1st and 2nd, then ending up in 3rd and long again. Lazor seems to want to double down on his style of play calling instead of ever being more conservative with running and designed rollouts.

I was interested in him saying we are worst in the league in 3rd down yardage to go. I couldn't really find that stat anywhere so I'm wondering if he was being literal or not.

I have not watched the actual presser. I hope he was joking about not having 3rd downs. If not, that is a comical answer.

The part that really baffles me is the whole "3rd down " problem. The way you deal with that is to try to not have 3rd downs? What? How about trying to be more productive on 1st and 2nd downs? Get more than 2-3 yards when you complete a pass. Run more vertical and seam routes and less lateral crossing routes. Establish the run more so play action can be sold. Have your QB break the pocket when things break down and scramble for some positive yards. Yet the best way to deal with it is just to avoid 3rd downs???

A lot of double talk from Lazor on Parker...blah blah blah. What he should have said is this: We shoulda never taken a receiver and DEFINITELY not one with injury problems. Probably shouldve went corner, linebacker or lineman first. As for the offense its all MY fault. We have a great weapon in Lamar Miller and I use him like were down 30 points every game. I never roll Tanny out either. I kinda suck at my job.

Meh! Whatever...looking forwards to the FA period.

I would love to know the number of times we have ever actually ran on both 1st and 2nd down, outside of trying to run the clock in the 4th. It has to be in the single digits. These are things winning teams do regularly, especially in the 1st half.

Not sure if we can find that stat probably a really small number, but check this chart out, look at the top of the list for pass percentage .... You would think Marino was still playing and how does the HC not go to the OC and say uhm.....

The scary part is that if Philbin were still here the numbers would be even worse. They didnt start using Miller more until Campbell took over

It's just so frustrating considering we aren't having success on offense yet we keep doing the same thing over and over again game after game.

Brother that is the quote of the year! Hitting the nail on the head. I say the same thing week after week. What you are doing is not working. Its a fact that its not working. So you dial up the same gameplan and plays each week??? its mind boggling
