Barry Jackson Notes: Delmas Fallout

With aikens promotion a dime package db job opens up...either michael thomas or a corner...

Since when does a single link equate the value or purpose of a new thread? :idk:

With Delmas injury history I wasn't sure he'd help this year anyways. I think the young guys especially Aikens can step up with minimal drop off

### Dolphins safety Louis Delmas is expected to miss the season after being diagnosed with a torn ACL in an initial test. So Walt Aikens gets his chance to prove he's a starting NFL safety, alongside Reshad Jones.

The front office is very high on Aikens, a fourth-round pick last May. Aikens had a few maturity-related issues last season, including one incident that resulted in him being deactivated for a game late in the season. But Dolphins defensive players, including Michael Thomas, have been complimentary about his improved maturity and increased attention to detail.

"Walt has been doing a great job," Jones said last week. "He has all the ability. Big, physical, can run well. He just needs to continue to work on his craft and get more in the playbook and learn the defense in and out. He can help us on defense."

And he will be needed to help more than anyone imagined a week ago.

Michael Thomas becomes the No. 3 safety, with a potentially larger role if Aikens doesn't seize the opportunity.

Cedric Thompson and Jordan Kovacs are competing for the No. 4 job. And Don Jones, activated off PUP today, is still working his way back from a shoulder injury.

Among veteran safeties who are unsigned: Thomas DeCoud, DeWan Landry, Quinton Carter, Bernard Pollard, Delano Howell, CJ Spillman and LaRon Landry

### A comfort level is growing with this offensive line.

Said Ryan Tannehill today: “I sensed it in the beginning that they had some work to do, but the more that those guys play together, the more consistent they get.”

Looking at the list of avialble safeties, I can't help but wonder if a certain ball deflater would sh** a load of bricks if the phins signed Pollard?

That and looking across the OL at Suh & Wake might prompt you know to suspend himself for at least 2 games.

I know hindsight is 20/20, but was Delmas rushed back? We have been nursing Albert and Parker....8-10 months from a surgery is early. Delmas was the kind of player that just needed one preseason game. I know it was a freak injury, but I get frustrated

With Delmas' history, him getting hurt was more than likely inevitable . . . may as well get it out of the way early so we can prepare the young bucks to have at it.

Yea, maybe him doing less would of helped, but I have no doubts that same kind of slip happening at some time this year would of caused the same injury.

Feel bad for Delmas. I was at the Ravens game when he got hurt. Looked extremely painful. Career probably done. Shame.
