For Karlos Dansby, moving to middle linebacker in a 4-3 defense has left him “feeling like a kid in a candy store.”
For Cameron Wake, shifting from a 3-4 outside linebacker to a 4-3 defensive end feels as comfortable as sliding into an old pair of slippers - “it’s like going back to my roots” – because that’s the position he played when he became a pass-rushing menace in the Canadian Football League.

Another excellent write-up from Barry Jackson.

This is my favorite part of the article.
Dansby weighs only six pounds more than the listed playing weight of retired former Dolphins star Zach Thomas, who held down the middle linebacker position for 12 years here, until 2007. But Dansby is five inches taller than Thomas.

“I have watched Zach’s tape and he’s on my to-do list to get in contact with,” Dansby said.

I can't think of many more astute students of the linebacker position than Zach. Man, I miss him...

From an instincts standpoint, Zach was second to none.

Always wished Zach could end up as a LB coach with the Dolphins.

Lately Barry and the guys at Finsiders (Agler and Congemi) have been the best source for anything Dolphin related. When you cut out all the noise from the other talking heads and just follow these guys it's less frustrating and you actually get what your after instead of personal opinions based on little imperical evidence. Thanks for posting.

Dansby and Wake should both have MONSTER years.

This.

Going back to the 4-3 and hearing all the players rave about it makes me really scratch my head at the switch to the 3-4. Especially since the defense already had a decent core for the 4-3. Thanks Tuna and trying to pound a square peg in a round hole.

Yes. Parcells was a failure. Nothing really made sense under him.

You have a "convenient memory". SABAN installed the 3-4 here. And the "core" was there for the 3-4 as well, mainly because of J TAYLOR's ability to play DE or OLB equally well. Say what you want about SABAN and his lack of even an ounce of tact, he knew football...and he was 1000% right about J TAYLOR.

Wasn't Saban running a hybred 4-3/3-4?
