Barry Jackson: Solutions for the O-Line and Other Notes

If Ross is disappointed in Sherman, why is that not Philbin? How does Philbin get a pass in all of this? I just do not get it.

Because it's only year two and it's early enough in the game where he can talk his way out of it. The feedback he gets on Philbin from the league is probably good, and the players haven't turned on Philbin. Part of the reason for the latter, I think, is because they simply don't interact with him as much as Sherman and the other assistant coaches. So it's Sherman, who Tannehill would naturally be critical of, not Philbin.

What cracks me up after reading that is there are some clowns on here that think talent is not the issue on the o- line.

I believe it's both talent and coaching. Because scheme means a lot, and making adjustments, like the stuff McKinnie was talking about. Not every team has the best linemen, yet they make it work! The grades on our O lineman were not that bad going into this season. But it's a combination of losing our starting LT, players not adjusting to the scheme well enough, a QB who holds the ball too long and doesn't move, and no blocking help from support players.

After Martin and Incognito left, suddenly the players left over started playing better. So it does matter what they're asked to do and how the lineman work as a unit, not just individually.

I don't understand why people don't realize this is an 'all of the above' situation. There is failure across the board. No one should be immune from criticism nor the contemplation of upgrade.

The blame/responsibility is universal. The only person less culpable than RT17 IMO is Clay.

I would look to fill two line spots with FA's. I would not bring back any FA linemen from last year.

Looks like Joe's monotone style does not get football players ready for game...ummm, I cannot imagine why.

If I were the new GM, I would try to get Mckinney as at lower cost than most LT's in the league and then draft everyone else. I would spend 4-5 picks on OL including undrafteds.

FA's are costly and too risky for a new GM to bank on. Ireland did this remember? No such luck.

Looking for two Tackles and a G in rounds 1-4. Set the Oline up for the future. The money out there is not as much as people think.

Joe hired Sherman. Why is that not on the HC?

McKinnie should not be a long term answer. Did you see him trying to run block in the last couple of games? Dude just stood up with his hands on his hips and watched the ball carrier get stuffed.

and the demeanor of a guy is only cosmetic when getting blame. Players get paid big money to produce. If they need some motivation, then they should look at guys like HOF recently retired from Baltimore. That guy didnt need a HC to motivate him to motivate everyone else. Players should be motivated by themselves.

I see it in Hartline and Gibson.

I see it in RT. I see it in OV. I see it in Grimes. sometimes Odrick. But everything else spoke to not so happy.....Starks was the king of this this year. Started out season with the middle finger. body language says all.

bye bye Starks, you were good till you got greedy.

So, you will have three rookies on the line to start the season along with a LT that is in his mid 30's and not a fit in this coach's scheme? Good lord that would be gross IMO. Worse than this year.

I think you can have two rookies up front, but three is pushing it. Plus, while McKinnie was a good stopgap, the team needs something more next year.

stop gap insurance....only if he takes a smaller one year deal for cheaper. otherwise, drafting my future OLine bigtime.

I think we need to either trade up for Matthews (I would not be opposed to this) or sign Branden Albert. Both options are expensive. Both options are only necessary because our GM has failed miserably in creating a tenable situation to work with.

Jeff Ireland needs to be fired yesterday. Or maybe two years ago.

nyes, three rookies who will learn my system for the future. Veterans have had more problems with switching into other systems like Clabo, Long, the list could go on and on.

This is what Im talking about people. New everything may mean new everything. Why bank your success on too much money for same result in the end!? Show some balls for once and do what needed to be done long ago!

No Fk'n Big name WR's who take 3 years!!! Big nasties all day every day!

Don't you mean "Bye bye Starks, you were a Dolphin until you demanded Jeff Ireland to pay you what you are worth"?

he got paid 8 mil + this year.

you want to pay that guy another 4 years for that your crazy.

you kiddin? I am trading down. The difference between Matthews and Ogbeuhi or whatever his name is might be way more minimal than you think.

and you can throw Gardner in there to start the season if you have to. Brenner ect. ect.

I believe this team can be fixed with free agency and the draft as long as Ireland is NOT doing the fixing and we bring a HC that can get his team ready to play. It seems like every week the team started out totaly flat. We didn't score a TD on our first drive in like the last 13 games of the year. Whenever we did score at any time it seems the defense would just melt and give that score right back to the other team. You can go from bad to great in the NFL but you need to right people to do it with.

Ozzy rules!!
