Barry Jackson Sports Buzz 8-6

If Jarvis Landry is catching 79-yard bombs I would say his 4.77 time at the combine is way off and his 4.58 time at his pro day is more realistic.

A lot to be said for being a very disciplined route runner, few 10ths of a second difference or not.

:sidelol::sidelol::lol::lol2::possum4286::possum4286: Good one. That one made my day. Too funny. Pretty sure Shelley doesn't make it past first cuts. He will never be a starter and would be our worst backup.

OK, but how do you really feel KT? LOL

I have to consider that the team signed Shelly over Colledge in FA, and think that if Pouncey is not injured, we would not have made the move. At this point, I don't know who will be starting on opining day other than Albert and James. Hell, depending on how these guys play over the next few weeks, it would not completely shock me if one guy was not even on the team right now.

Colledge and Satele need to be starting on week 1 to be assured roster spots. Being vested veterans, their salaries are guaranteed for the entire season if on the roster for week 1. I'm pretty sure both will be starting though. Smith maybe a better run blocker than Colledge, but the latter is the better pass blocker, and keeping RT17 upright should be the primary concern when it comes to whose on the OL.

Satele's contract was a strange one in that $750K is in incentives paid just under $47K per game if he is on the 46 man roster. If he is inactive, he does not get that money. I've never seen a contract quite like that, and was good for the team with the Pouncey questions.

How many 79-yard bombs did Davone Bess ever have in practice or games? None. Landry is faster than advertised.

Interesting comments on Colledge. IF Shelly beats him out, do we keep him or maybe look for someone off final cuts who can play both sides? He, like Satele, has little money guaranteed.

That is a strong possibility IMO. The staff wants versatile OL and Colledge isn't that really as he's a LG mainly.

His speed does not bother me at all but, I have a bit of a concern on Landry's height at 5'11" to be special. Many compare him to Boldin but, he is 6'1", and over the course of a season that will make some difference. Nothing to do with still very much liking the guy.

Many things still to shake out on the OL. His camp reports seemed good but, Philbin's comments leave doubt in who will be where. I just want to see the OL play so I don't have to base opinion on tweets.

i have never bought the anquan boldin comparison, or seen it myself (physically. demeanor and style of play, yes). when i look at landry i see oj mcduffie (5'10"), with maybe a bit of hines ward (5'11") thrown in.

I like your comparisons much better, with maybe a bit of a taller Wes Welker thrown in for the slot.

LOL. .. The thought of Bess catching a 79 yard bomb. Impossible when you average 1 YAC

Shelly Smith is making this team KT, maybe he's just a back up for us thats great it would mean Thomas or Turner stepped up. but he is by no means our worst lineman. i think hes a key back up at the guard spots. who do we have at guard ahead of him? Colledge, Turner, Thomas then Smith debatable about Brenner but Brenner has shown he can play center too that will get Brenner on the team. most likely we carry 9 OL.

Colledge
Smith
Statle
Turner
Thomas
Garner
James
Big Al
Brenner

who am I missing who you would cut Smith for? Jason Fox maybe since he could be a swing tackle

i could see it sims last year.

i was wondering why they were not getting him more reps. probably from his blocking being a bit wobbly, but, i saw a real promising pass catching TE and was hoping they would develope him in that area a little more last year.

i mean REALLY. could anyone block last year? at any position?

in his scouting report i remember seeing that "he wasnt used much in the passing game in college, but, when they did, he excelled and has a lot of raw talent for being a threat in the passing game".

and thats what i saw. i also saw tanny not seeing him and being open SEVERAL times or just plain missing him. THIS is the beauty ov tivo'ing the games, you can go back and check the things you thought you saw or, just watch certain parts of the game, such as just the o-line or wr's, TE's, rb, etc..... .

VERY excited for sims. and its appearing hickey's first talent haul is legit. but...., we shall see when its all for REAL.

Sims blocking was much worse than a bit wobbly. He pass blocked on 48 snaps, and was pretty bad giving up 2 sacks and 2 hurries. He was in for 151 snaps to run block and was horrible. He was out on the pass 81 snaps, targeted 9 times, catching 6 for 32 yards, 1 drop, and 1 TD.

He was a 4th round rookie developing and learning the NFL. I like him, and expect him to do well this year.

It will not shock me if The phins keep 4 TE's (Clay, Hoskins, Lynch, & Sims).

Or, maybe Wallace's is off and he is not as fast as left to believe. Regardless, Jarvis should tutor Mike on how to catch.
