Barry Jackson Suggesting Grier Stays And There Is No Rebuild

I have thought for awhile that NFL franchises are gold mines. You need not win to make lots of money. The playoff payoff is not that great in relationship to the inherent cost associated with them, unless you get the ultimate payoff, a championship. Ross can stand pat and make money right now. I think he would like a ring for his ego, who wouldn't, but need not push it. He signed big, expensive talent and would like more payoff but is still making bank. WIn-win. Just my opinion... I fire the soft coach first, Mr Capri panties.
Then hire who?

Well……we’re stuck with Grier until our inept owner is gone. I remember when he first bought the team a few of my friends told me: the Dolphins will never win much with him as the owner! He’s a life long Jets fan and will do everything possible to make money, but he wouldn’t be too upset if the team doesn’t win Super Bowls. I laughed at them back then…. Now? Nope, I’m not laughing at all.
He's spent a LOT of money on bloated free agent contracts as well as buyouts of GM and head coach contracts over the past 15 years of his ownership for a guy who is only looking to make money. If that was his sole motivation, I'd say he'd go the Mike Brown (Bengals) route through the years of paying at the team salary minimum, not the maximum.

IMO Ross' incompetence in hiring GMs and head coaches through the years has more to do with the Dolphins' struggles over the years than on Ross' motivation to make money.

This is the concern I delineated in prior thread "Can The Dolphins Blow It Up And Rebuild If They Want To?" (https://finheaven.com/threads/can-the-dolphins-blow-it-up-and-rebuild-if-they-want-to.385051/). Seems they are stuck with a lot of these deals and their cap hits. They could still fire Grier independently of all of this, but I wouldn't be holding my breath.

In the case of several of the team’s biggest stars and best players, the dead money cap hits — and inability to replace them with similarly skilled players — should deter the Dolphins from jettisoning them.

If the Dolphins surprisingly part with Grier and hire a new GM, he might prefer to blow it up and start a rebuild like the Dolphins embarked on in 2019. That would be a mistake. This core needs at least one more season together to see if better decisions around the margins and better health can catapult them to new heights.

The Dolphins have too many cap complications — and too many good players (Tagovailoa, Hill, Waddle, Ramsey, Zach Sieler, talented running backs, others) — to justify a full-scale rebuild or tank.

Ya this was pretty obvious
Only change might be Grier
But they could not do a major rebuild even if it was necessary which it isn’t.

And if Grier was fired you might get Brandon shore as gm

I want McDaniel to stay. So I prob have to deal with Grier staying one more year

The fact that we didn't sell off any assets at the trade deadline makes it seem more likely that Grier will return next year mainly because Ross probably wants to let Grier see this window of ours through.

Another GM would probably want to blow this all up and put his own stamp on this roster.

That kind of thinking is a mistake. I think a new GM can do both things.

He can manage this window with this core of players for the next couple of years and improve the weaknesses on the roster. Something I don't trust Grier to do successfully.

Then in a couple years when this core of players will have run its course he can blow it up and rebuild his own way.
You can not blow this up. Because of cap reasons you simply can’t. Even a new gm wouldn’t.

Rebuild after two years of making the playoffs?
Rebuild after back-to-back years of late season collapses. It's become clear that the best McDaniel could do with a loaded roster was not nearly good enough, so a tear down and rebuild made good sense.

Yes that is correct they run it like a business.. primary goal is not winning super bowls. Thusly the tua deal. All about marketing. Like a night club ergo club liv in the stadium

Totally agree. Great point. I made that in my other post i referenced too. Who is going to want the job knowing they can't even do anything for a few years? I think Grier did this purposely, and Ross didn't even realize it
Any assistant GM in the nfl will take a GM position with full control and a pay raise

Why the hell do we need one more season. What is magically going to happen? We have 8 years of his GM history to judge by and not one division championship since 2008 and 1 playoff win since 2008. Grier has been part of this crap show since 2000. So 24 years in the organization having some part if not major control of talent and we have a floundering team.

This sounds like Ross wants to blame injuries and other crap once again and allow him to focus on other things than the Dolphins which to him seems like nothing but an investment to sell after a few years.

Grier needs to go, and sadly im rooting for our demise so this happens. We're 2-6 and anyone thinking we run the tables are foolish. We are not making the playoffs and if we somehow manage to I will eat my crow, but I really don't see that happening regardless of last weeks close game.

I dont buy that some GM prospect wouldn't come here to try and right this ship. 1. The pay is great, 2. this is a brotherhood, 3. there's always someone who is willing to put his stamp on a team and bring them to greatness. The benefit outweighs the risk imo. So I don't buy it.

We just have to hire the right person. There should really be a list of blocks the new gm has to check in order to be hired but I doubt Ross knowledge of what those blocks are. It's really not that hard. And honestly, I don't think a blow up is needed.

And since Grier did **** us with these contracts, we have no choice but to keep these players. The return isn't worth it to deal them and create another hole. The replacement for these players can be drafted on the back end of their contracts, so right now we draft OL and LB and DL. When Hill, Ramsey and others are on their last year, that's when we draft their replacements.

Really, the next gm (who I hope and pray is Andy Weidl from Pittsburg) can draft us out of this on the o line and bring in depth on defense and OL in FA.

Need to figure out the last 3 draft classes… gotta get more contribution from cheap talent to balance out the expensive vets.

When was the playoff win since 2008? I’m drawing a blank. You must have meant 2000. Back when I had hopes and dreams and hair.
