Baseball Infield STINKS!

ok its only been like this for what? 15 years? it stunk then and it stinks now but this is not news.

Did I miss something here, I thought it was cut and dried that the Marlons would be off our field starting next year...Now you're saying its not going to happen??

I thought that was like 2010. I watch the wild card race hoping the Marlins lose so we can cover up that dirt patch. Horrible.

Not sure, but I think it cost Eddie Moore a season on the bench.

Bottom line is that the players dislike it, both because they feel at risk and it influences the game, that alone should make it a top priority.

I thought it was all set that next year the Marlins would have their own stadium? Pox on the city of Miami if this is not so!
 
Let the Marlins play on grass, its not like anyone actually cares about the Marlins.

I laugh every time I see one of these threads. Why?

For one, Huizenga is the reason why the Marlins have bad attendance. He sold the whole championship team off after 1997 then sold the team itself to an owner (John Henry) who was just biding his time to buy the Red Sox. Now he refuses to let the Marlins keep the money from concessions, luxury boxes, parking, and other various stadium fees at their games, which in turn is the reason why the Marlins don't have enough money to uproot and build their own stadium.

Then, when the team finally gets almost enough money to build a new park (all they need is $30 million), the state says no, you guys are terrorists, and we don't want to help you. The money they were asking for is earmarked for sports and entertainment, and STILL the state wouldn't give it to them. They were prepared to blow well more than $30 million to allow the Seminoles to keep their name in court had it come to that, but because the Marlins don't play in Jacksonville, most state legislators could give a hoot.

Not only that, but then there's the argument that is true but surely won't be popular on this board: the Marlins have won two championships in 7 years. The Dolphins are known for not coming through. Last year when the Dolphins stunk, attendance sagged as well for that team. Face it, this isn't a football town, it's a winner's town, and as long as the Dolphins are in the toilet, fans will gravitate towards the Heat, the team du jour right now.

Sorry, that's BS.

There are no statistics that support that claim what so ever. If you think that Heat and Marlins (who have won 2 championships in 7 years but no one really noticed) will become more popular than the phins you need a dose of reality. Fact is that football is the most popular sport in the nation, backed up by TerryTates recent study (not his study, he just linked it) and fact is pr Sailsbury that the Dolphins is the 4th most popular franchise.

I didn't say they would become more popular. The point is, while the Dolphins are down, people are paying attention to other teams, not necessarily the Marlins because Wayne-O screwed them. This is an incredibly bandwagon sports town; people hop on and off on a dime.

But thanks for ignoring the rest of the argument. :)

On average, football might be the most popular sport in the country. But what does that have to do with a specific region of the country, seeing as how this conversation is strictly on South Florida? I'm not saying it's not true in South Florida (I really wouldn't know) but to make that generalization throughout every region is flat out wrong.

For example, if you believe the Patriots are a bigger ticket in New England than the Red Sox.. you are mistaken.

As far as his arguement, he lives in South Florida and writes for major newspapers down there, I'll take his word for the region being fairweather.
