never got a HC job or stuck with a team since he left us because his defense is vanilla. He was a very good DC (for the most part) with us because we had strong DLs, a great LB in Zach, 2 good bump and run CBs, and an oppurtunistic safety in Brock Marion. But when he had to get creative on defense, he failed. The few times we blitzed, they easily got picked up, and his D was built around small LBs (same reason Donnie Henderson never got another DC job after a couple years with the Jets).

The game has passed Bates by sad to say. Doesn't help that his defense calls for 2 big run stuffers and the Bucs DTs are built for the cover 2/tampa 2.
