Battle to Watch: Running Back

Very excited to see Wright get more touches behind a revamped OL. He should be 1B to Achane, and getting 15 touches a game at minimum.

After Jackson got hurt, his ypc fell off a cliff last year. It was startling to see how ineffective the run game was as a whole. I know the difference between correlation and causation, but in the eight games that Jackson played, Miami rushed for 100 yards six times. In the nine games that he didn't, they rushed for 100 yards twice.

Well said. I also hope we see a slight philosophical change in the running game. I think that's a big reason Gordon was drafted, along with the addition of Mattison. Achane and Wright can both bust big plays off sweeps, but there's a lot of all or nothing there (too many negative plays). I hope we see more traditional power running game. Savaiinaea and Daniels point to that as well.
I agree with you on why they drafted Ollie Gordon. How many times can you get stuffed before you say we needs a power runner!!?? Ollie is just what the Dr ordered. 3rd and 1, I like our chances with Ollie Gordon running behind Jonah and Daniels. He makes good decisions with the ball and has vision to find daylight. Last season we were in 2nd and long way too often. It's totally soul crushing to have a great drive going, you find yourself in 4th and 1 at the 50 yard line. You hand it off and boom, loss of 3. The offense walks off the field with their heads down. Our GM laughs at us for thinking we need a better oline and a power running game. He finally stopped laughing and did the right thing. Tua, when asked to carry an offense usually fails but if given a strong run game that the D is forced to respect I think he will pick teams apart. He should have more time to throw the ball and make decisions in the pocket. If the oline is doing it's job our offense will be lethal and very hard to stop. Now. if McD can get the plays in MUCH faster we may be allright!

I really liked seeing wright working on his craft by himself

Achane could be doing the same.

Wright has a lot of talent speed and underrated force to his game , should be a nice battle for reps

Also from a brief look Ollie doesn’t look to be in the 230 range

I hope to see that player at 215
Yeah, I liked that Wright was putting in the work and that video that showed him doing it. At RB we are in a very desirable position. It's the strongest and deepest room in the building. I think Achane puts on a show this year but we all think that. Regarding Wright vs Gordon, I did not see enough out of Wright last year. So, while he has the edge of a full season, I think he should watch his back as Gordon is coming for him. Can't wait to see it all happen in TC.

I'll get excited at a battle in the RB room when Miami gets a runner like this:

If current guys can do even half of what Earl did and could do, I'd be pleased.
