I've been reading a bunch of threads for the past few days now and i have to say some of the opinions I am reading on here are not much different than last year and any other week following a loss or a few. That being said i've also saw a bunch of really good opinions and im sure a few of you would enjoy discussing these things this is a long post but i feel its worth the read...

We have come a long way from last year, forget the record all together, just look at how the team is starting to play and look at the upgrades and strides we've made. For the first time in YEARS (probably since even the JJ era) i can honestly say that i feel we are going to have a serious chance at being very dominant in this league in a few seasons. there are so many good things to discuss. At the same time we need to pinpoint the problems and break them down instead of complaining about irrelevant things and looking for quick fixes. here is what i've noticed that needs to be fixed:

Our Passing Game - No im not going to bash or whine about Chad! In my opinion, this is more a matter of getting a number 1 receiver who can scare defenses enough to open up the secondary a bit. Not only that, but developing a more mature relationship between the QB and recievers - this isnt b/c they cant have one...just it hasnt been long enough for a melting pot of guys to mesh and gel together just yet I state the same reasons and say we also need to get guys being able to excell in this offense that takes time. IMO our Tight Ends are very dominant in the passing game, IMO Camarillo can and will be a great slot/3rd down reciever much like Chrebet used to be for the jets or even what welker is for NE. Im not so sure about Ginn or anyone else yet b/c i just havnt seen much from them skill wise - not counting them out just havnt seen much.
As for QB I really like Chad. I saw his flaws while he was in NY and wasnt the happiest when he first jumped on, but let me tell you, the guy is very smart, makes good decisions most of the time, and is very accurate. I read the article about how he is only playing "not to make mistakes" I find that ridiculous esp with the state of our team rite now. You show me film where a reciever is blowing away the coverage several times and Chad just cannot get it to him (throws short, doesnt see him several times) and i'll start calling for Henne, but for now Chad is doing nothing but lighting up defenses for decent gains. I dont feel we even have neone for him to throw to long now anyway. Henne needs to learn,so he emerges already dominant. Chad needs to start for a while more. Getting a QB with a longer range isnt going to win us football games, and certainly would not have won us back any of our losses this year.

Our Secondary: I dont know enough about defense and pass coverages to get too in depth about this but i will say that every time an opponent has been in a 3rd and long situation i almost expect them to get a 10-20 yard gain now. Something definetly needs to be done. You want to talk about aspects of this team that maybe could have won back some of our losses- you talk about our secondary. From dropped balls to getting beaten etc. we have been horrible where it counted most. I feel that we have a very good linebacking corps that will only get better, but if teams constantly throw on us knowing we cant defend, we are nothing but sitting ducks every game if its close.

Coaching/Wildcat: I like when TS speaks, he seems to be able to pinpoint problems and seems like a truely No-Nonsense guy. I feel like he is whipping this team into shape and helping them to reach toward a common goal. He is changing the culture in Miami. His saying we need to go back to fundamentals is nothing but entirely true. When you miss tackles, cant block properly, drop interceptions and commit penalties - You Will Not Win Games. TS knows this and hopefully he can get everyones mind back where it counts.

all that being said - i feel like after we utilized the wildcat efficiently the first 2 games, the coaches sort of shifted their thinking, i feel like they called a very conservitave game against baltimore and i feel like we should be holding nothing back this year. Go for 4th downs that are close esp when our defense is struggling....take shots in the endzone at the end of the half...coach like you have nothing to lose in some situations. The wild cat itself grew out of that mentality. and let me tell you that wildcat is something i really like and i feel it could be a tradmark of this team in coming years. We do not need to use it every play, and it is no excuse for our normal offense to not produce, but it isnt a gimmick and it will continue to work if used sparingly and in the rite situations, so stop calling it a gimmick, and not effective anymore etc. Different teams create different matchups some will be favorable and some will not ..its part of football.

overall we have much to be excited about and much to discuss, but please try to look at things analytically. We are on our way to much success, and many of the peices are already in place. Just support the team, the guys that are playing good, and concentrate on what really needs to be fixed and how we can go about doing that, and just how much closer we really will be once some of these conflicts are resolved. Im sure for most of you i just summed up alot of different subjects but hopefully it can focus some people.

Agreed. Instead of putting ban-aids on trouble spots, and giving the fans false hope by trading away all of our draft picks, this front office and coaching staff is interested in building for the future through the draft and I'm all for it. Remember the joke that Dick Jauran's Bills were a few years ago? We are now seeing how building from the draft can work if you do it in a smart, deliberate way.

Jerz,

what's frustrating to so many people is that we've lost games we could have won.

We don't have to be a rebuilding team, we could be a playoff contender, but we keep letting winnable games slip away

What makes it hard for me to get excited is that this seems like deja vu all over again with Sparano. Saban had us really excited in 2005, and then we crashed.

I do like Sparano as a coach though. He instituted one of the toughest conditioning programs this team had ever experienced. I hope he does it again this offseason.

Quarterback will be key in 2009. Pennington is the starter for now, but will he be in 2009?

well i can probably tell you that the starters first name will be chad...other than that idk......LoL...as for coaches, yes saban had us excited i wont deny that...however i dont quite remember exactly what we were so excited about? i think we were just anxious to get out of the wanny era (which doesnt look so bad now lol) I feel that with Sparano theres some emotional fire to him, and i also think since parcells selected him he has to share some of this whole changing the culture philosophy. I feel that hes less headlines and more gritty football u kno? but only time can tell...

Please, never say that again. His drafting prowess is the reason that we are in this mess in the first place.
