Beasley Keeping it Lit

Twitters blowing up about the money.

But it doesn't seem to be that uncommon. Here's a pic of a dinner that Odrick tweeted and a rookie picked up. 30K.

Having known someone who worked for the Bucs, i can vouch about the money thing.

Fast forwarding past all the training camp pranks and what not, what usually happens is: on the last day of training camp the team usually breaks down into position groups and goes out to dinner(unless Joey Galloway is on the roster, then you go to a strip club and he teaches the interns how to "make it rain"). They usually invite all the low level staff members/interns/what have you. They do run up the bill and they do throw money around, and then they do leave it to the rookie to pay for it. Its a common thing and usually a jab at them earning their first paycheck.

That said, if its happening more then once or twice, if its a consistent pattern, then this is total bull****. It is unique. It is abuse.

yeah it's not really as big a deal as Beasley is trying to make it out to be. A lot of other teams do this... if not all.

Oh and CK made a good point on twitter about how a lot of the media in South Florida's reaction is politically driven because they hate Miami's policy towards the media

When I talked about anger, dysfunction last week, this is what I was referring to. This issue extends far beyond the Martin situation.

Recently, a younger player was handed the tab for a $30,000 team dinner. The rookie minimum this year is around $400.000.

They've gotten sucked into the Miami lifestyle, and the veterans are using the younger players as an ATM, I'm told.

One young defensive player, whose privacy I'm protecting, has literally gone broke because he's been pressured to pay for older players.

I can now report this: This is a HUGE issue inside the Dolphins' locker room, and not just limited to this situation.

I reported last week that there were other issues, with resentments being harbored between other players. It's about this.

Just got off the road, and saw Schefter's report on the $15,000 allegedly gotten from Martin for a trip to Vegas.

Yeah. If it's onetime thing, I can see it as being a common thing around the league. If it's a regular practice, it's straight up crap

I am more offended by what happened to the rookie than Martin.

Honestly believe this is the type of story Schefter is using to try and destroy the Dolphins reputation. Rookie hazing and having younger guys pay for things goes on everywhere and every year. The Dolphins are no different, except they have the one player(Martin) who has thin skin.

Doesn't this stuff happen on all teams all the time? I have heard of this kind of thing several times in the past and have heard no one make a deal of it until now.

In any case, Philbin needs to nut up and address this situation publicly. He can't just stand around and let the media drive the story and paint the picture. He is looking like a man without a handle on his team at the moment.

Trying to knock us from the top, obviously.

Thanks Rob.

Not sure why we can't put up screen grabs.

But yes, it seems common. Certainly sucks, but nothing I would consider abuse or bullying. I would kind of assume, that...if a rookie plays well the hazing is over and he's left alone, but if he doesn't play well, and then ignores the vets around him when they give him sh*t about it, then they may ride him some more, or have him pick up a check here or there.

If Martin didn't want to tolerate it, then he just doesn't. He should just say eff off, or no I'm not paying for the trip or whatever, and stand up for himself. If they pick up their trays because they're pissed, then so what. They'll get over it, and eventually you won't be a rookie anymore and once you start playing well and get some more experience you'll earn their respect.

I think it's been overblown. If we were talking about a bigger man, bullying and berating a smaller man, it would be a different story. But these are all big men, all O linemen, and they're playing a very physical sport.

I've heard stories about that stuff all the time. As far as I know, that's standard stuff.

I'm just waiting for the other shoe to drop with Pouncey, I think that's what's really going to be ugly.

The bill was definitely split... They would never put that on one man to pay for it all. Haha now that would be crazy...
