John Beck and Chad Henne played the same schools three times in their college careers.

With the exception of a game where John Beck got injured and missed most of the action, Beck outplayed Henne. Also, Beck's completion percentage was much higher than Henne's.

I still prefer Henne, but Beck wins this matchup.

Irrevelant!:d-day:

We all know Michigan plays tougher teams than BYU! Beck played the JV teams.:rolleyes2:

Thanks for compiling the stats.

I guess I better get used to this. Months and possibly years of comparing their college stats as if that will have anything to do with what QB will win the job.

How old and at what points in their college careers were the two during the '04 season?

It has nothing to do with who wins the starting job.

Why would you think it would?

I wonder if that had anything to do with Henne being 19 when these games when played vs Beck playing them at age 23/24. I wonder how Henne would do if he played these teams NEXT year when he'd be the same age as Beck was when these games were played.

I don't love Henne, but let's compare apples to apples. May one of them become our future.

look to the 2005 matchups with Notre Dame to see a more seasoned 20 year old Henne's numbers.

not this way or that for either QB, but your argument makes no sense at all because the comparisons were against the same teams. Actually your argument may have helped pad the Beck stats because he played with inferior talent around him according to your philosophy. On top of all that no way they were the same age playing in the same season against them so this is like the all 26 year old QB thread when it gets down to it

Beck was one year ahead of Henne in school. So the stats are comparing Fresh/Soph and Soph/Junior stats. What does age have to do with it?

Are you suggesting that a 23 year old Freshman who has been out of football for several years would play better than a 22 year old Senior?

That doesn't make sense to me.:shakeno:

I was being sarcastic. Some feel that non-BCS players are inferior because they always play against inferior talent.

I can't say Henne or Beck is the answer but I was fine with taking Henne at #57.

I just hope the staff doesn't have some kind of love affair with Henne since they drafted him because I usually don't say much of anything about unproven player's but I really seen something in Beck that I like, I love his arm, his quick release, I love his feet, his heart and his pocket presence.
I just hope they don't do what Atlanta Falcons did with Favre.

like beck can go head to head with anyone. more like head to shoulder. he's lucky its henne at 6'2 7/8". he wont seem so tiny next to henne, merely small

No, but I have little doubt that a 23 year old has a significant athletic advantage over a 19 year old when it comes to football. And Henne's stats aren't for a 22 year old Senior, so you've compared a 23 year old Sophmore vs a 19 year old Freshman. Frankly I think it's laughable given the amount of changes an athlete goes through in that time frame. If you compared them at 25 and 29 I could live with the comparison. I get that you like Beck. I hope he turns into a Pro Bowler. I could care less which QB lead us and long as they play well.

Ireland/Parcells burned a 2nd round pick on a QB with a team that has holes left on offense and defense. That says what they think of Beck. They'll say all the right words, but they know what kind of QB they want running their system, and that's obviously Chad Henne. We'll have a "competition" showcasing Beck in the preseason to try to parlay him into a 3rd or 4th round pick in the 09 draft. (By taking Henne prior to trading Beck, Beck has zero trade value at the moment.)

I was thinking they'd give Beck a shot, but I trust Ireland/Parcells. I hope Henne is all they expect him to be, and wish Beck well with his next team. He'll be auditioning for them this preseason.
