This season and last season, his play has dropped. 3 years ago he was still doing well. Euro-Cup he did fine.

I believe he is still one of the best midfielders in history...but he is going the way of a run of the mill star and nothing else.

He has been the most marketable star in history probably, but he was never that important... I wouldn't even say he was the most important player on England national team... I always saw Scholes and Gascoigne outplay him.

No way. In 1998-2001, maybe 2002 (debatable) he was England's Top Player. Also Maradona and Pele weren't midfielders.

I'd have to agree with you on those time frames. Becks was pretty damned dominating with his vision and passing ability. His ball placement was near perfect no matter where he served it from. I just wished he would have shown that type of dominance for the full match. Maybe Sir Alex wouldn't have let him go to Spain had he played 100% all the time.

Exactly. His playmaking ability with his short passes/long passes/free kick accuracy (shots and passes) helped England win so many games. That is when David was at his prime. He has dropped off, no question about it, but during those 3-4..Becks was as dominating as anyone. The man owned.

As someone who watches him play ever week for Real Madrid, I can say he is easily playing better than anyone there this year. His energy has been up, he's stayed healthy and his been playing great.
The PROBLEM is that there is no one on Real Madrid who can head his passes. Ronaldo? Raul? (who has been hurt) Robinho? Cassano? These guys don't score goals like that. And so Real is using a system that they don't have the players for. NOW, if they still had a guy like Morientes, things would be different, but they don't.
And I know this is about Beckham, but since I'm on the topic of Real, I might as well vent my frustration at the fact that Ronaldo ever gets any passes. How can people boo a guy who doesn't get a chance to score? Arguably the best foward in the world when healthy and he gets what? two or three passes per game? Are you kidding me? I love my team to death, but they are never going to win another trophy until Florentino leaves. This whole Zidane/Pavon's mindset has been a disaster.

These are players that were offered or agreed to come to Real Madrid until Florentino changed certain stipulations. (Check the facts cause I promise you ALL of these were Real's)
Ronaldihno (Florentino told him to wait one more year, he went to Barcelona)
Etoo (Grew up in our system, told him he was not Real material, went to Barca)
Messi (offered to us, we said no)
Puyol (offered to us, we said no)
Viera (Ready to sign with us, Florentino told him he salary would not be that of a "galactico" He left)

Again, I tell you these are not hypotheticals, read past articles and reports and you'll see all of them are true.
