Is anyone else worried over Beck's choice of jersey number??? I am getting flashbacks already.

(This was not a serious post, so don't kill me)

haha no I am not superstitious like that, although some are that is for sure.

No, because I liked Fiedler...he played with more heart than most. If Beck plays with Fiedlers heart with superior talent, we will all be happy

Got a lot of good memories with #9. Ya know, when you could say we went to the playoffs like 6 years in a row

I personally like it a lot.

Although this is not a serious post, I'm compelled to give you a straightforward, serious answer. I don't think that wearing a certain jersey number has any effect on a player's performance. Consider that Daunte Culpepper reverted to his college number (8) after signing with the Dolphins. I'm willing to bet that it was his injury and not the jersey number that perpetuated the problem with his knee injury.

It's no different with any other player who wears a number of his predecessor. I don't think that the person who eventually wears Ricky Williams' number or Fred Evans' number is going to have problems in their careers. The bottom line is that it's just a number. John Beck is nothing short of a spectacular college quarterback and he should prosper with this team in the future. The early reports we're hearing from camp should give you goosebumps.

I agree with a couple of the posters here in regards to Fiedler. He did a fine job as a Dolphin (remember the SNF comeback game vs WAS or the endzone scramble vs OAK?). Jay played hard for this team and I give him all the credit he deserves. Heck, the last time we were in the playoffs was when he was the quarterback of this team. Ray Lucas? Nope. Brian Griese? Fuhgetaboudid. Gus Frerotte? Close, but no. Joey Harrington? Don't remind me. A.J. Feeley? I just threw up in my mouth.

Beck had mentioned that he admired Drew Brees, hence the number 9. As much as I respect what Jay did for us, I'd rather see Beck emulate the current day Brees

As long as he works out for us in the long run, I could care less about his number....

According to an old article from Provo, Beck wears Number #9 because his favorite QB and BYU alum was Jim McMahon. I can't find the link right now.

I remember that comment too... I was actually surprised it wasn't Young who he held up to emulate.

who cares about a number if dan marino wore the number 9 instead of 13 no would be saying anything anymore heck let him wear number 1 its jus a number

I like to think "Drew Brees" more than "Jay Fiedler"

great way to look at it, and very true...

fiedler only made it in this league with pure heart and hard work... he didn't have the physical tools to be a successful QB, but Beck does and with that same kind of heart and hard work, look out!

WOW, not me. He is one player I want to forget about. We have made hard to deal with decisions with him, not once but twice. We should have had him in the draft and then again last year. I was shocked we took Danute over him. That was the beginning of the end for Saban. I want to forget he even wore 9, or that he exist.

DING DING DING. Jay would have been a GREAT qb had he had all teh physical tools. The inability to make all the throws is what cost him. Courage and toughness should never be debated with Jay. I remember teh 200 season where he played with a partially torn MCL or was it sever strain/sprain and a separated shoulder so bad he couldnt hand off with his left arm. I dont care what anyone else thinks, a guy with that much heart is a guy I root for. I agreed and believed it was time to move on from Jay but that doesnt mean I didnt respect him, he gave 110% every down.
