"The Dolphins appreciate Beck's tireless offseason work and want to give him a fair chance, but they need to see production in games to remove doubts. Beck had several balls batted down in off-season practices, but he's comfortable with his release point now that it has been changed ``back to the way it was in college.''

This is news to me. I'm not a coach but I take this as he couldn't adapt to a 'pro-style' release and has regressed to his college release. Could there be anything good to take from this? It was my understanding at 6'2" he'd have to change his 3/4 release to an over-the-top release in the NFL.

No one has an over-the-top release in football.

It will be real interesting around here in a couple of weeks. I hope Henne gets signed and the competition increases that much more. No I don't think Henne will start opening day, however, all reports indicate his has perform very good and the extra competition will only help all three of them.

The article's statement is incomplete as I understand the situation. Beck was injured his senior year and played through pain in his throwing shoulder and hence changed his motion and release point.

To say he is back to the motion he used in college, really means he is throwing like he did before he was injured.

People on this site LOVE to bash Beck.

Honestly, I really do not understand it.

Brady Quinn is a clown. A bust.

Beck has potential. Hopefully Parcels won't be an arrogant bone head and over-pressurize this guy or this team to figure everything out in days or weeks.

These things take time.

He injured his shoulder and had a side arm release. They made him go back to his original release which is what the coaching staff wanted.

This wasn't intended to be an excuse to bash Beck. On the contrary I think it's bad news for Beck fans like myself because I take it almost as if the staff has given up on him in a way, at least in terms of being a starting QB. If he's consistently getting balls batted down in practice I think you'd have to alter his delivery.

Hopefully you guys are right and it's injury-related.

That is the truth. He was injured and went to that motion because of the pain, and never went back. Now, David Lee has made him convert back to his old throwing motion and that should only help him. He should be much better for it.

How exactly is Quinn a bust? I'm not saying Beck is a bust, but c'mon. I'm not saying anyone from the 07 class is a bust before they even start they're second season.

after laron landry was gone i really wanted quinn last year. i personally think the kid is gonna be a player and from what i've read he's looked real good in offseason workouts and all this offseason.

i don't know how anyone can say he's gonna be a bust. we may hope he is since we passed him up.

It was actually his sophomore season when he suffered a shoulder seperation.
He worked with Lee to raise his release point a few inches like he used to have before suffering a shoulder separation his sophomore season at BYU.

"It's like Tiger Woods, if he can do something to shave off one stroke he'll do it," Beck said. "If I could trim one or two batted balls every six games then why not?"

Every QB has balls batted down. Did he have more or less compared to other QBs in similar situations?

His college release was never the problem. Apparently, he had a shoulder injury his final year which caused him to adjust his throwing motion.
This has resolved.
THAT is what he meant when he said it had changed back to the way it was in college (before the injury).
Whether he succeeds in the NFL or not will have very little to do with his "release point".
It will have more to do with his decision making under pressure.
We all know he's extremely bright and picked up the playbook easily.
However, can he translate that into quick thinking/response on the field.
He's either going to be an above average pro bowl QB or a career backup.
If he can't translate his playbook intelligence onto the field he will end up being a guy like Jason Garrett or Gary Kubiak. Solid backups lacking what it took to be quality starting QB's, but both very bright and highly regarded as coaches.
