If where you train in the summer is considered important, how you play during that time is even more so. A look at the numbers suggests that NFL preseason games are important:
  • Last year's four championship-game teams had a .688 preseason winning percentage (11-5).
  • Five of the past six Super Bowl champions had winning preseason records, two going 4-0 and three 3-1.
  • The past 10 Super Bowl champs have compiled a .707 preseason winning percentage (29-12).

oh please. our best player wasn't even on the field for crying out loud.

if we would have lost today with our first unit out there, then i would be concerned, but most of the starters didn't play as much.

was NewEngland or TampaBay that was 0-4 in the preseason but ended up wining the Superbowl??

Unbelivable. Last year Colts:

Preseason: 0-4
First 13 Regular Season Games: 13-0

For Christ sake, our 4th and 5th striggers were on the field.

And Miami went 3-3 in the 1972 preseason...so what's your point.

And..?

All your arguments may be true, but so are the facts I quoted.

Don't get me wrong, I think the Phins will kick *** this year. I'm just amazed at how emotional people get here. Logic goes out the window. If we win a preseason game, we should be anointed the next Superbowl champs, if we lose we are either terrible or preseason is suddenly so meaningless that the game should be entirely disregarded.

I'm just saying there is a middle road here. These games are improtant (more so as we approach the regular season, of course). Can we go 0-4 and win the Superbowl? Damn right! But does a preseason record indicate something about how prepared the team is for the regular season? Yes... say the stats.

I am NOT judging the Phins year on this game. That would be stupid. But I also think it's stupid that the same people so sure that a victory tonight meant we would dominate this year, are suddenly crying that the game means nothing.

We'll have a great year. Now if only people would stay sensible.

Nice work, but what about all of those teams that were 4-0 or 5-0 in the preseason and struggled to win 3 games??? What about the Bills of the early 90's who were lucky to win 1 preseason game but would then win the AFC East and then go to the SB??? You can post stats until opeining day, but you won't convince me. Every coach approaches preseason differently, I'd say most of us are SMART ENOUGH to see, in our 2nd preseason under him, that Saban concentrates on player evaluation in the first 2.

Who Cares!!! Its game one of the preseason!!!!

Call me if were 0-4 in the regular season. The scrubs on the field in the second half will be warthing those games from thier sofa's at home. They beat or scrubs with a starter for a backup and their scrubs. I hate the negativity on this site.:fire:

Btw

People's assertions that our "2nd and 3rd" stringers played most of the time are probably true of every single preseason game in the last ten years of stats compiled by the NFL. It really is comparing apples and apples, so the only reason I see for people suddenly hating the idea of preseason games meaning anything is pure emotional unwillingess to want to believe it.

Who said the preseason doesn't matter? No one has said that from what I've been reading. It's usually that it's the FIRST preseason game and we shouldn't get too worked up about it.
